How long before I can start "trying" to get pregnant?

I had a gastric sleeve done on January 5th, 2010.  How long before it is safe to start trying to get pregnant? I am 210 lbs right now, but it's only been one month.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What i was told, was that it was a year from when you get your surgery.

My surgeon recommended waiting 18 months.  You will find it varies a lot from surgeon to surgreon.  Did you get a handbook from your surgeon's office?  You might find the answer there?

Typically 18 months -- although some surgeons will allow closer to 12 months if there has been a long period of stable weight (3-4 months at a stable weight).

It's very important to avoid pregnancy this close to surgery -- ketosis is very harmful for fetal brain development.

The time frame I have seen is about 18 months for pretty much any weightloss surgery; but I think the rule-of-thumb is "when your weight has stabilized".

My surgeon said 18 months is the guideline he uses but I was cleared at a year since I lost about 20 pounds 6 months. It really is when the weight stabilizes and 18 months is the norm. That being said accidents happen and if the do work with the surgeon and OB.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
