Progesterone

It seems to me that a lot of ladies are taking progesterone.  How do you know if you need it?  This is my first pregnancy and I want to make sure that everything is okay.  Is this something that I should be concerned about?  Thanks for the info!!

Typically, it is tested along with your BETA for numbers and if it is low or there are other concerns your OB will prescribe it.

I had to take progesterone supplements with my other 2 pregnancies, so with this one it was just a given and I knew I'd have to be on it.  I had it tested when I got my BFP and it was a little low, so they put me on the internal suppositories for the first trimester, twice a day.    I'm also going to take it after I have the baby for a month or two (after discussing it w/my doc), to help balance out my hormones so I don't get PPD so bad this time (had it really bad with the other 2 babies for a few months and had to go on Zoloft).   My body for some reason can't balance my female hormones out too well (or very quickly) after I've had my babies and I get all wacky and have to go on Zoloft for a few months- then I get back to feeling normal and it's so nice to not feel so out of control.   I'm going on Zoloft this time a month before I have the baby so my mood and whatever else can be in more proper balance after I have the baby and I hope I won't have the PPD as bad.

A simple blood test will tell you if you need to be on anything or if you are ok, just ask your doctor.  GL!

My RE puts every patient on progesterone until 10 weeks. That is just his policy. My OB says she would have put me on progesterone since I had two losses last year just as a precaution to help me.

My OB tests as soon as you get a BFP if you have had a miscarriage. The office thinks that might be why I miscarried in July. I am 1 number away from low so I have the suppositories.
