Pregnancy Discrimination??
So, at work they are doing a restructure. They told me on Monday that by the end of March my position would be eliminated and that i had to choose from two open positions, both of which I have already done for several years. I agreed to decide. Well, today, before I could even give my decision to anyone the HR rep comes to me and says that they are just going to keep me in my current position until I go on maternity leave because I am pregnant. Now, had she framed that so it sounded more like, "better for the company" or something, I would not have been so upset. But if I were not pregnant they would have me move. Because I am pregnant, they want me to stay? I was pretty upset and did tell my boss after an hour or so of cooling off that I didn't appreciate the way the whole thing had been handled. It is true that I was looking forward to switching things up for the last two months before I deliver- I am really bored in my current position and every day requires a really long pep talk to keep me going, and essentially sucks. If they really want me to stay in an eliminated position for a few months, that's fine, as long as the reason isn't pregnancy! That seems to be discrimination to me! Everyone has been asking for months now when I plan on going on maternity leave- I am due in freakin June! I don't really have much of a belly now! I have felt harrassed for a while, and this is icing on the cake! Unfortunately no one overheard so I can't really do anything about it. But still! Sorry for the rant. Just wanted to know what you ladies thought and if you have had any similar experiences. It really sucks!
