Bad Nausea & Vomiting

Ok, my question is geared towards those of you that have had a pre-op baby AND a post-op baby and had RNY.

Have you noticed major differences in your pregnancies before and after surgery? I'm telling ya, I did NOT have nausea and vomiting like this with my 4 pre-op babies. This is my first (and probably ONLY) post-op baby and the nausea and vomiting are unreal. I'm taking Zofran and when I take it, it's fine. But I only have a week supply. And when my Zofran pill wears off after 8 hours, the vomiting and nausea immediately comes back. I'm essentially at the end of my 1st trimester, but that never really means that the nausea and vomiting is just gonna automatically go away. It showing no signs of letting up, frankly.

Just wondering what some of you may have experienced. I HATE taking medicine and hate even more to take any while I'm pregnant so it was a major stretch for me to even call and get some Zofran, but heck, after weeks and weeks of vomiting every 2 hours and being HORRIBLY sick to my stomach, I couldn't take it anymore. I feel guilty for having to call and get it and feel bad that I am actually glad to have it just because it makes me feel SO much better!

I tried all the natural remedies....making sure my belly isn't empty for very long, peppermints, peppermint tea, ginger ale....yada yada and it just wasn't cuttin' it. So, any of ya'll have this same issue? I thought that pregnancy would be easier after losing all that weight, but I'm here to tell ya...it has just been plain hard for me this time around. Although I would do anything in the world for this little one inside me and wouldn't care if I puked every hour for 8 months. Ok, I would care, but I'd do it! Just wanted to hear everyone else's experiences.

I didn't have any babies before surgery so I can't really answer your question. I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry you feel so horrible! That really sucks!

Hey Allie,
I had Gavin before surgery, felt fine, never got sick.  I had Delaney after surgery, felt fine never got sick.  Now I did feel like getting sick a couple of times with Delaney though.
This baby....Mind you, different father...I felt sick all the time for the first 3 months.  I also was very hormonal and moody!  I was not that way with my first 2.  So I "blame" it on Ben...haha.  I am much better now, smells still get to me sometimes but not as bad as in the beginning.

This probably didn't answer any of your questions...but just wanted to share what happened with my pregnancies.

Well, yeah that answered my questions. I just really wanted to know if anyone else had experienced it. I'm just wondering if it's something RNY related or just how I'm reacting to this pregnancy, which is just bizarre as my morning sickness with 4 other babies was pretty much nil. I'm bamfoozled.

How is your sweet Delaney doing? How old is she now? 3? Her birthday is in Dec right? I wish I could blame the morning sickness on the father.....lol but he fathered my 2nd, 3rd and 4th so that isn't it.....LOL I'm just wondering if RNY-ers deal with more nausea & vomiting compared to any pre-op babies those patients might have had.

Thanks for telling me your experience.

Yes, Miss Delaney is 3...turned the day after Xmas.  She's doing great.  Is loving the fact that she's going to be a big sister.  She's always coming up to me and wanting to kiss the baby, or rub my belly.  It's so sweet.  Gavin is going to be 11 in June and he's semi excited about the baby.  Then I also have a step daughter that is 13.  She is really excited too.  The girls want the baby to be a girl(ofcourse) and Ben and Gavin want a boy.  ofcourse!

I can't tell you if the surgery causes us to be more nauseas or not...I just had a few nuaseas episodes with Delaney and they came and went within a few minutes.  This baby it was everyday all day and I would avoid food.  But I never threw up either.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!  It's not fun feeling and being sick!

Thanks Zee! I definitely feel better with the medicine, but I don't want to take it for months. I feel bad about taking the medicine anyway. I don't want it to do any harm, but I also KNOW that I need it and I shouldn't beat myself up......lol Hopefully it will go away soon.

Have you tried eating a saltine BEFORE you get out of bed? What about candied ginger? Or raspberry tea? I actually was told by my last gyn office to try potato chips and pink lemonade. She said it had to be pink. I have noticed if I don't drink my raspberry tea I am more nauseous that when I don't.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Yes, I've done the saltine thing. I also used them just to try to keep my belly from getting too empty because I knew the saltines were about the least likely thing that would make me vomit and since they don't have a smell and very little taste, they were ok for a while. Then the saltines were starting not to do their job so well and that's when the vomiting every 2 hours started.

I haven't tried candied ginger because I really can't stand the taste of it. I drink ginger ale pretty much all day, every day and it's Canada Dry so it has real ginger in it. That at least keeps me hydrated for the most part even though I know I need more fluids.

I haven't tried the raspberry leaf tea. That's an idea. I actually just found a really good article on tea in pregnancy that I thought I'd post for everyone's information. It's pretty informative. Thanks for the suggestion on this tea.

Potato chips and pink lemonade.......lol.....sounds like some weird pregnancy craving! (I craved A&W Root Beer and Cool Ranch Doritos with my 1st baby! LOL) I will try anything at this point. Just gotta go pick up some pink lemonade.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I will give those 2 a try that I haven't tried yet.
