Has anyone in here had PCOS and had a baby after the surgery? And when you were trying to have a baby, when you got off your birth control did you stay regular or did your periods get all messed up again?
Thanks
Carmen

I had PCOS pre-WLS.  It went into remission after WLS and I got pregnant on BC!  I have maintained regular periods since.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 21 and did not have a menstrual cycle for 3 years w/out provera or BC. I was told it was highly unlikely that i would conceive without medical intervention of some kind. I had RNY Feb of last year and started a normal menstrual cycle the day of surgery and it continued to be regular until i got pregnant in November. I know that losing the weight did the trick. Good luck, there is hope!

p.s. my baby wasnt planned (i like to think it WAS in God's plan), i was forced out of town the week i was supposed to re-insert my nuva ring due to the sudden death of my FIL and got pregnant that week!! eesh!

Carmen - I too was diagnosed with PCOS pre-op and was told that I would most likely never conceive on my own. I was about 21 at the time (although I know it went undiagnosed for YEARS before that) my periods were never regular and I had all the classic symptoms. I was on BC pills for years ( a good 8-10 I have lost track) I had my surgery 1/30/07, went off the pill 1/09, got pregnant 4/09, miscarried in 6/09, pregnant again 9/09 and am currently almost 25 weeks along. All is perfect and the baby is growing right on track!

Good Luck

I had a 9 cm cyst on my ovary and had that removed in 2003. While in there they diagnosed me with PCOS. I started BC right after that. I was on it until last year. I had surgery on 1-15-08 and stopped the pill in 4-09. Waited a month then got pregnant the first month we tried, found out 6-09. Miscarried in 7-09. Had to get a health problem taken care of and just found out yesterday that I am preggers again! I have been regular every since I went off the pill except for 2 months and that is when I had to stop TTC because of thyroid problems. It was SUPER sluggish and might have caused the miscarriage. I am seeing a endocrinologist for it now and it is TONS better.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

I had PCOS for years after my 1st child.  Didn't have a period for about 3 years without help from my OB and BC.  After RNY my periods came back after 3 months.  By 5 months post-op I was pregnant.  Then.....when my daughter was 5 months old I got pregnant AGAIN!  My son is now 2 months old.  I'm fertile mertile!  So my DH had a Vasectomy on December 18th.  No more babies for us.

My 2 post op pcos success stories are in my siggy. My cycles are pretty regular now, but a little longer than normal, about 34 days. I had surgery just for this reason. Good luck. Shari

after having this surgery i realise why so many women with PCOS opt to have the surgery to help with their fertility issues.... I was pregnant once on my own in my early 20's that was a loss. In my mid twenties when we decided to try again my periods had almost stopped and we tried for a year then 7 months clomid before becoming pregnant with my son. I had gone 8 years without birth control and only was pregnant with the help of medication. Like others i got my period for the first time in like forever while i was still in the hospital from RNY. After surgery i was getting my period but still very irregular, but as i look back they were getting closer and closer together becoming more of a normal cycle. Stupid me... just couldnt get my head around the fact that there was the possibility of getting pregnant. I guess i couldnt quite grasp what loosing weight had to do with all of my female problems.... well that came into light quickly when one night i didnt feel quite right, took a pregnancy test more to calm my nerves, and whoops im prego! I am deligted in the fact i am pregnant as i really did want a second child. I just wish i used a little more caution and waited out the year more careful in my actions.

Hi Carmen,

I was diagnosed with PCOS before surgery and conceived and miscarried once before surgery. My main reason for having the surgery was for fertility issues. I am now pregnant (without any kind of help) for a third time (we also lost our second pregnancy...I was 7 months post op) and this one is going very well!

I never really had irregular periods growing up so that was why I wasn't diagnosed until my early 20's (I am glad hubby and I started trying early so I knew my issues as early as possible).

Good Luck!
