Hi, I was wondering if folks out there would mind sharing their experiences of trying to get pregnant, post WLS, particularly if you are late 30s or early 40s.  If you also have a history with PCO and/or diabetes, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Many thanks to all that share.

Hi there
I too would be interested in knowing more about this.  When all is said and done, by the time I have surgery and I'm about 18 months out, I will be around 39 years old.  Having a child/ren is definately something that I have always wanted.

I was 37 when I got pregnant with my daughter.  I was about 23 months out from my surgery.  I did not know if I could even get pregnant; I had never tried.  I went off birth control (Nuva Ring) in the beginning of April 2007.  I believe I conceived on my 37th birthday (April 26th).  We found out we were having a baby at the beginning of May.  As you can see it happened very quickly for me.  We thought we had better start trying because, as I said before, I didn't know if I could get pregnant and also, I had been on birth control for a long time so we thought it might take awhile.  The pregnancy went pretty well.  I always pretty much measured 1-2 weeks big.  Around the 35th week or so, my blood pressure started to creep up.  They kept an eye on it for a week and a half and then put me on modified bed rest for about another week.  I was induced at 37w4d due to those factors.  I had a very long labor; I was induced at 7am on a Tuesday and ended up giving birth via emergency C-section on Wednesday at 11:08 pm!  All in all, it was a good experience, and I am so blessed to have my daughter.  I know she would not be here if it hadn't been for my WLS.

Best of luck!

I am 37 and had surgery in 2008. I was just a little over out before I got preggers, and 36. I went off the pill in March, Didn't try in April (doc's orders after stopping the pill) and found out I was preggers in June. Lost that baby in July (6 weeks) and just found out today I am preggers again! I have/had PCOS and diabetes before surgery and I am guessing the PCOS is resolved and I know the diabetes is resolved.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

I have 2 post-op wls RNY babies!  I was 38 when I had my daughter, and 40 when I had my son 6 months ago!  I gained 14 pounds with my daughter, and 2 pounds with my son.  I had my RNY in 2004.  I had no probs getting pregnant with either of them.   As far as pregnacys, my daughter, I had no probs til the end when I started having a racing pulse.  They took her via c-section at 38 weeks/3 days.  She weighed 6 lbs/13 ounces.  My son, unfortunately with him I had killer migraines from week 14 on.  He was c-section at 38 weeks/8 days.  I had the opposite problem as far as diabetes.  I had to eat every 2 hours, or my sugars would crash in the 30's.  I was hypoglycemic.

Delila-

I am 6 years out from surgery and 40.  I found out n November I am pregnant with twins.  I had been on Depo Provera for birthcontrol for many years.  I stopped depo in August of 2007 and did not conceive until October 2009.  We did not do any sort of fertility treatments, just tried to pay attention to cycles.

Good luck to you...  and keep this in mind, while it is harder to get pregnant between 35-40, you have an increased chance of twins.  Just ask me- I found out first hand! :)

I had surgery 3 years ago.  Had an IUD put in because I did not want to get pregnant.  November of last year decided to have the IUD removed 11/12/09 to try to get pregnant at the age of 38.  Found myself POSITIVE before my next period was even due in Dec!!!  I am now 11 weeks.   Have had very little morning sickness...only occassionally feel yucky if I go too long without eating so  I  tend to eat every 2 or 3 hours.  Have gained 3 pounds so far and doc would like to see me gain about 10 more!  Not sure how I am going to manage that!

I was dx with PCOS when it was still called Stein-Levanthall Syndrome ~ that was a long time ago! LOL!

Post op, I have had two babies.  The first at  35 1/2 and the second at 37.  I just turned 38 and we expect to have more.

God Bless! Jen
