Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to ask a question. I am 3 months out from having RNY, and I am so anxious about having a baby. I know I need to wait a little right? I just wanted to get everyone's feedback. Thanks

Your best bet is to talk it over with your surgeon. They will know YOUR body and what time you will need to heal and lose.

*Most* surgeons are now recommending to wait 18 mos to 2 years post op before conceiving. It depends on how much you want to lose, any complications you might end up with, your surgery type, your health at the time, etc.

Best of luck on your surgery-

You don't want to get pregnant while you're still in your losing phase because that's dangerous for the baby.  Ask your surgeon and wait as long as he says.

My doc said to wait 1 year to 18 months.

Um, yes.  You need to wait.

When you are losing weight so quickly, you are generally in a stage called ketosis.  Ketones are a byproduct, and are very harmful for fetal brain development.

18-24 months is the general recommendation, although some surgeons will recommend a period of time after a stable weight has been achieved.

Please take heed -- it's not advised to get pregnant early -- it's very hard on your body to do so.  The baby might suffer, but you most definately will.  Your body is already undergoing a great deal of trauma from the rapid weight loss -- don't add to it.

Dr. Ahmad says to wait atleast 18months. These first 2 years or so are the most crucial in your weightloss journey and your body still needs the time to properly heal before having such an change again. I would talk to him about it if you are too anxious but that is what I was told by him, Dr, Klonsky, and all the other associates. Good Luck!!
