I know Benadryl is safe - BUT

How often can I really take it?? I am having horrible sleeping problems and I am running out of ideas. I have a body pillow. I prop my body all up but I still wake up about every 45 minutes because my lower 1/2 is tingling / burning / and in pain. I mentioned it to the OB and she said unfortunately it is totally normal - just the way the baby is sitting on things. If I take 2 Tylenol PM or BEnadryl before bed I sleep pretty well until 3am which is better then nothing! But I am afraid to take it too often.

Thanks Ladies

My OB let me take them daily. That was the only way I got any sleep. I usually did the benadryl and only did the tylenol if had pains etc. Lex came out perfect- so there was no issue with us doing it.

Hang in there! I am so sorry, insomnia stinks!!!

I take Benadryl every night with my doctor's blessing.  Not only can I not sleep without it, my allergies have been 10 times worse since I've been pregnant.  I very specifically asked her if I could take it every night and she said it was not a problem, she was only concerned with ME becoming hooked on it, which I totally am.  She had no worries about the baby and she is generally pretty conservative about medications and stuff.

I take 2 benydryl before bed if my allergy's are bad... other then that I only take one a night... but they help me sleep so that's why I do it... I took it all the time with my daughter cuz I have just horrible allergy's... and she is just fine.

Thanks ladies! I will try taking 1 at night before bed and see if that helps me get into a routine - I'll forgo it on the weekends. I try too to only take the Tylenol PM when I have aches and pains because I know too much is bad for the kidneys. I also have sleepy time tea on my grocery list - Dr said it was perfectly OK to drink too.

Thanks again!

I took one or two 2-4 times a week during my last pregnancy.  The only way I could get some sleep.  Doctor encouraged it--he preferred I get some sleep with Benadryl than almost no sleep at all.

Thanks! That's what I figured - I am totally running on auto pilot and I am afraid that my work is going to suffer soon.

When I DO take Tylenol PM (which I use for allergies....it doesn't make me tired anymore) I usually try not to take more than 4-6 a day (when I do need it really bad I can get by on about 3 usually. The 4-6 amount was before pregnancy). If an OB tells you that a med is ok to take, usually you can just follow the dosage on the bottle and not go over the daily amount on the bottle. Just ask your OB for clarification or try to take the minimum amount that you need for the day and don't go over the max daily amount on the bottle. God don't you hate sleeping problems? And I hate allergies on top of that. I think I sneeze a hundred times a day! LOL I hope you start sleeping better. Oh, and if you're waking up at 3 and having problems getting back to sleep, pop just 1 of them and that might help you get through the rest of the night. That is my usual protocol when I use it while sleeping, although I'm not really using it while I sleep now, just maybe when I wake up sneezing my head off! LOL

OK thanks! I really just take them at night to help sleep. And well my nose has been running for the last 24 weeks so it helps with that too. I have never been a great sleeper but this is crazy! So worth it, and I guess it is prepping me for those long nights of newborn feedings! lol

Thanks again!

I did to.....I was seen by High Risk Docs, and they gave me ambian to take at night for when it got really bad. I didn't take it every night at first just when it  was really bad, which towards the end it was BAD. And both my girls were fine.
