Pregnancy and the sleeve

Hi

I'm due to have my sleeve in 3weeks and my hubby and I got some news today that we didn't expect. I have PCOS and 3 children and was happy not to have anymore due to needing help falling pregnant, my liver crapping out whilst pregnant and having too many misscarriages but if I did fall pregnant that would be ok too. I would be watched very carefully and have lots of blood tests. Fast forward to today and now we looking at starting to try for a baby in December. That will be 10months+ after my sleeve. Can I get anything about your pregnancies after having the sleeve done.

Did you have to take more pre-natal vits?
Did you have smaller babies?
Mine have been 7lbs 10oz (40 wks), 7 lbs 2oz (37wks) and 7lbs 7oz (39wks)

Were you still able to breastfeed and make enough milk?
Did you have to have your baby early?
How did you go with weight gain while pregnant and afterwards with weightloss?
etc etc...

Many thanks

I didn't have the sleeve but just wanted to know if your Dr. said that it would be ok for you to try to get pregnant at 10 months out. Just wondering cuz most WLS docs make you wait at least a year. Some 18 months - 2 years before getting pregnant. You need to make sure that your weight has leveled out for several months prior to becoming pregnant. Have people been pregnant sooner than a year out? Sure. Was their baby ok? For the most part they are. Can you sabotage your surgery? Sure. Is it healthy? It can be, but doesn't mean that it's easy or enjoyable and can sap you if you don't get in enough calories and nutrients because the baby will take what it needs and leaves you deficient (or CAN leave you deficient). Just make sure your Dr. says it's ok before you start trying. It really IS best for you & baby if you do that.

Good luck to you and I wish I had had the sleeve! LOL

Hi

My Dr had said he would like it to be 12months out when I had my appoinment with him but we all didn't know what we know now. I put 10months+ because I don't know when my cycle will be.  I was hoping to wait atleast 4 yrs before even thinking of having another baby if I did want another one but with the news we got from the Drs today we don't have that time to play with. If things were better I would not be having my WLS, have my baby then get my sleeve done, but I need the op to lose the weight to get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy.

It is something that is being thought about hard that myself, my  husband and Drs have spoken about and before I do anything I wanted to know from real people what happened to them.

Many thanks

Planning a baby is exciting, to say the least. It's impossible to say where you will be, physically, in 10 months. Remaining open to all possibilities and keeping in touch with your Dr will be the most important factors in your decision as to when to TTC.

Many women here conceived in less than the ideal waiting period (myself included). Some by choice and some by accident. Most women went on to have healthy babies and ok weight loss. I worried (and still do) every day that something will be wrong with Everett because I was soooo sick the entire PG was riddled with complications....all as a result of getting PG by accident too early out. I love my baby, don't get me wrong, but given the choice, I would have waited as long as possible before having him. Just my opinion.

PLEASE be careful in balancing your decision against the advice given here. People aren't always forthcoming about their situation. Some have chosen to conceive despite horrible health conditions and against dr's orders. When it comes to the health of a baby, IMHO, choosing to TTC when your own health is unstable is a very irresponsible decision. This is not against you personally, but I know of others here who are putting their fetus at risk every day by conceiving when their own health is extremely compromised. Did that make sense?

Anyway, my point is that whatever "advice" you get here, take with a huge grain of salt. In the end it is best left up to you and your Dr as to when is the right time to create a new life.

Congratulations to you and please keep us posted along your journey!

Hugs,
