Okay ladies I am really really worried.
I had my RNY done back in May and found out I was pregnant in late August. I am now going on 28 weeks and entering that lovely 3rd trimester and the home stretch. But to date, no know weight gain.

I had lost the entire pregnancy until December...I gained 4 lbs...yay. Then I went back 3.5 weeks later and had lost 7 lbs (making a total of 35lbs lost since the day I found out)...not good. Well I have an OB appt on Monday coming up but my OB just called me. She told me if I havent gained any weight she is going to need me to see a nutrionist on a regular basis and I am going to have to do a growth scan. I am starting to worry because my OB is beginning to worry (and I am not her first RNY patient).

I think I have been eating my fair share of calories in a day...I dont tract but I know at a minimum 1000 a day. Most of what I eat are carbs and lately I eat at least 5 times a day. I dont eat the healthiest I could (with ice cream, and cake, and candy) but I would think if anything that would add on the pounds. I dont weigh at home (dont even own a scale) so I cant get on it to just check to see if I have gained anything since. So now I am just terrified and worried that my baby is not gaining weight and it will become a problem.

Please help me gain weight ladies!
Simone

I am about to begin my sixth month and I have gained a total of 7 lbs according to my Dr, but according to me, I have gained about 10.

Nevertheless, my weight gain just started about the past 2 months. My dr. said it's ok if I don't gain any weight, as long as the baby continues to grow at a normal rate.

I think that we bariactric patients may actually gain weight but becuz of the surgery, it appears that we are losing. Sounds confusing, but it makes sense. For example, giving up alcohol, we are not gaining any weight from drinking, so our weight is at at standstill, becuz we are eating healthier foods.

Also with you, I think that you got pregnant a little prematurely, my dr. told me to wait 2 years, therefore, you are still in the beginning phase where the weight is falling off of you. I hope this helps.

Hi there and thank you for the response.

I think I kind of get your reasoning but with my preggo brain I'm confused about everything lol. Yes I did get pregnant prematurely, so this has had a major impact of weight gain. I think I would be happy right now with even just a standstill.

I only gained 2 lbs and it was around 34-36 weeks.  I kept gaining and losing the same 3 pounds.  My little one weighed 6 lbs and 10 oz. at 38 weeks.  My ob said as long as you are taking your vitamins, eating healthy, and baby is measuring fine and growing well...she was not worried about my lack of weight gain.  Try drinking Ensure, Boost and going back to protein shakes to help with weight gain.

Thanks Tracy!

That is reassuring to hear, that others gained practically nothing. My last u/s which was about 6 weeks ago she was measuring spot on ideal. I was 22 weeks and she was measuring a day or two behind but weighed over a pound. So if they check her growth at my fetal echocardiogram on moday, I am just hoping she will be measuring just right. And I am taking my vitamins and eating healthy for the most part so that can only help. I think I might go back to Ensure (me and the stuff had some bonding time in early pregnancy when my m/s was from hell). However, I cant do protein shakes...never have been able to since surgery cause they all make me sick regardess of brand or type.

What's your BMI, though?

(I've lost weight too but I figure I'm okay since I'm still technically overweight.)

hi there.

If I calculate this correctly and I hope I am...my height is about 5'5 and my weight was 167 last checked so I would say my bmi is about 27.5. That is still slightly overwight but not by much. My surgeons goal for me is 160 not 150 which would put me at normal as he thought for my body shape and bone structure thats too low. So idk what to think here.

my OB told me it was OK to loose weight the entire pregnancy. I am not her first RNY patient either. I am 24 weeks and only up 1 pound.

Make sure that you are getting in your protein and up your calories. My OB, nutritionist and  surgeon want me between 1500-1800 calories a day with 100 grams protein, 90 grams of carbs. I feel like I eat all day long but most days I get there.

Do you have regular ultrasounds? I have a growth scan once a month and the baby is growing perfectly. That is the best guage of everything. If the baby is growing no need to worry about your weight. The baby is taking whatever she needs.

Not that I am by any means an expert- you are ahead of me by a few weeks in this pregnancy too, but I'd watch the "junk" food - it'll be harder to get back on track afterwards from what I have read.

What is your normal day's menu look like? Here's what I had today

B 6:30 am: 2 packs instant oatmeal (low sugar) made with milk
S 9am: cheddar cheese and 1 hard pretzel
S 11am: yogurt
L 1pm : leftover roast beef and gravy and about 3 tablespoons mashed potatoes
S 3pm: greek yogurt and blueberries with splenda
D 6pm: flounder with green beans and a tomato/basil/mozzarella salad
S: 8:30pm: "protein" pudding (chocolate cook pudding made with soy milk and fat free cream cheese - topped with 1 tablespoon peanut butter and 1 tablespoon sugar free cool whip)

GOod luck & hope that this helps!!
One more thing lol sorry I am rambling! You had mentioned feeling dizzy and light headed - maybe not getting enough protein in? I'd put your food into something like fitday.com or sparkpeople.com to see where you are calorie/protein/carb wise so you can better guage.

Thanks Liz!

I dont track just because doing so even before I got pregnant only served to frustrate me and usually would throw me off somehow. But just eating regularly and healthy got me numbers that were good (when I did calculate a few days later for my nut). I havent had a growth scan but I have seen her about every 4 weeks. In fact this is the longest weve gone without checking her out (6 weeks) and I have a fetal echocardiogram on Monday (and my OB may call and order a growth scan too now).

A typical day would look like what I had today

B 8:30: 3/4 an egg omelet with a slice of cheese inside on half a small cinnamon raisin bagel
L 11:30: a slice of chicken bacon ranch pizza minus the crust (cant finish) or on another day i might have 4 thin slices of ham and cream cheese on a small tortilla and 6 oz of either apple or cranberry juice
S 2: a handful of tortilla chips and a handful of grapes and a cup of milk
D 6: mashed potatoes and broccoli (or other veggie) with some kind of protein (today was bbq steak kabobs, yesterday was shrimp scampi)
S 9: maybe a pudding cup or small bowl of ice cream or one of the small warm delight cakes (150 calorie ones)
And about 3 bottles of water.

Overall my nut had said when I first got pregnant to aim for a minimum of 65 grams protein, 100 grams carbs, and 1200 calories, and 64 ounces of water a day. Since I am so early out she wanted me to focus more on carbs than protein to fight my way out of mitosis. From a rough estimate I would say my daily meal aligns with my nuts plan. What do you think?
