Stopping Progesterone
My OB just told me that they did a study with women ON progesterone and not on it and that the miscarriage rates for both groups were exactly the same. He said that women with "low" progesterone can have a healthy pregnancy just the same as one that has "normal" progesterone levels. In otherwords, progesterone use is much debated in regards to if it actually would help prevent miscarriage or not.
In my experiences with progesterone, I stopped using progesterone at 15 weeks and somewhere around 18-20 weeks with my last one. Now with this pregnancy, I'm sure that I won't get another progesterone prescription this pregnancy and I'll run out right as my 2nd trimester starts. I definitely understand your concern about stopping it, especially when you've had loses in the past (I've lost 4). It's generally recommended when you DO take progesterone (and have "low" progesterone levels) that you take it throughout the 1st trimester. Are you taking the progesterone because your levels are low or for some other reason? What is your progesterone level?
