1 hr glucose test Monday...gotta question????
Okay...so I passed it last time I took it...I don't know about this time. My surgeon says I can take it(if I dare...and I do since I dont dump badly on sugar, just fat) but that it may not be accurate. So...anyways, I figure I'll take it and see how it goes. But here's the question? I called the doc's office today to see if I am supposed to eat before it, and if so what? They were like...you can eat before it...just don't eat alot of sugar. Ooookay.
Any advice? Should I eat? Shouldnt I? I don't know what to do?

I was told NOT to eat before the test....however I called them and asked if I could take the A1C blood test instead ( reccomended by one of the girls here) and they agreed it was best even tho I don't really dump on sugar too....on fat I do tho.... I just did not want false results being a by pass patient ....anyway the first test I took came out a lil high...50 mg of sugar in that drink 1 hr ..and it did make me a lil sick...the 3 hr has 100 mg and that is the one I asked not to do....:)

Why would you do it, even when the doc tells you it's not very accurate?
(And let's be clear -- the accuracy is questionable due to the lack of the pyloris. You are lucky to have an OB that agrees with this as most have their heads up their asses and don't see this fact.)
Playing around with your blood sugar just for kicks isn't cool. The fact that your OB tells you that it's not necessarily accurate and is giving you a pass to take something that IS more accurate in us? Shiny win. Take them up on the offer and get a post paradinal test or an A1c test instead.

I took mine last Monday... was told not to eat an hour prior. I passed my test! Though was told my iron was low and put me on a supplement. It wasn't terribly low at 32..they like to see it at around 37.
I didn't dump terribly bad either... when I dump, I get super sleepy and my heart races a little. But it wasn't too bad.

The OB is not the one saying I shouldn't do it...its the surgeon. The OB is insisting I do it. The surgeon says I can, but that if I get a positive result I should have them do the A1C. I am only doing it because the OB is basically insisting.

my OB insisted on me doing it too, but I didn't want to do it because the glucola has 50 gms of sugar and I'd totally get sick off it!! I have a blue "bible" booklet I got post op from my bariatric doc's office and it says for pregnant women not to do the GTT because first of all, the amount of sugar in the drink will make you dump. Secondly, the amount they want you to drink in under 5 minutes is almost impossible (it is for me) and lastly, the results will be inaccurate once you do take the test because we lack a pyloric valve.
My ob insisted I take the GTT but I called my bariatric doc and he said the hemoglobin A1C will be just as good as the GTT and show if I do have GD. I had it done last week and I'm fine. I do have a slight case of hypoglycemia though, where my blood sugar gets kinda low and I need to eat to bring it back up. I refused to do the glucola and make myself sick!!! I am the one paying my OB to do a job and he can't force me to do anything I don't want to, if there is a reasonable option that will produce the same results!!
