pregnant after rny
So, we tried for 10 years to get pregnant and nothing happened. I had rny 6 months ago and we are adopting twins that are due in April. I have lost 115 lbs and life is going great. THis week we were totally shocked when I found out that I am 6 weeks pregnant! My doctor told me that would happen but I thought I was infertile. How should I change my diet and will this baby be ok with what I eat? I am basically going to be the mother of triplets. GOing to see my surgeon next Monday but was just curious now about any changes in diet or vitamins.
Thanks!
Thanks!
WOW! Congrats!!! You are going to have a fun year!!
I had RNY 3 years ago. You need to add carbs back into your diet for fetal brain development. It's important to keep yourself out of ketosis. My NUT and OB recommended 1500-1800 calories, 100 grams of carbs and 100 grams of protein a day as well as AT LEAST 64 ounces of water - more like 100 if I can do it (and usually do)
Congrats again!

Congratulations!!
You will certainly be a busy momma!! My surgeon/nutritionist recommended adding 300 calories a day and no more than 15 grams of carbs per meal. Of course it seems like every surgeon/nutritionist has different recommendations but are consistent with increased calorie and carbohydrate intake.
Good luck! Have a happy ad healthy 9 months!

Thank you! Our twins official due date is May 12 but the OB is doing a c-section April 23 if she makes it to that point. That will be the 37th week. It has been awesome because this will be an open adoption and we have gone to every doctor's appt. We will definitely have to share advice and tips on twins. Our twins are boy/girl and we are sooo excited! I am happy that I am pregnant but nervous as to how I will care for 3 babies under the age of 6 months. We have lots of family close by so I know that we will make it. Thanks for the advice!

Congratulations on the twins, your pregnancy and your weight loss--and welcome! I'm sure your surgeon will have her/his own protocol, but mine is to add 300 calories, and in addition to the prenatal, I take a multivitamin, calcium, vit D (I'm very deficient), folate, and DHA. I have monthly blood work, and add or drop other vitamins/minerals as needed--for example, I was told I can stop my additional iron and B-6 for now. Good luck!
