Gabriel might come home today!

Gabriel's tests are all coming back normal.  His upper GI and heart echo were good.  They haven't found the source of the blood from Monday morning but do not believe he is still bleeding.  His blood counts have been steady.  He was moved from the NICU to the stepdown unit yesterday and had a great night.  He needs to finish his antibiotics late this afternoon and then we will probably get to go home.  Both of his NICU visits to Pittsburgh have happened on days that he was scheduled for his circumcision.  I think he is determined not to have it done, but the doctor here said she's not letting him go without it today.  She doesn't want him to pull another stunt like this.

Wonderful news! SO glad that he is doing well and gets to come home!

Oh I was just reading last night in either "what to expect the first year" or "baby 411" that sometimes when babies are traveling down the birth canal they can breathe in blood / nastiness from the delivery and cough that up for a few days as it gets into their lungs. Of course that is 1 doctor's / author's opinion but maybe there is something to it.

Enjoy having your little man home with you where he belongs!

That was one of the things they considered but since it was six days after delivery and the blood was bright red they didn't think it was that.  They also checked to see if it could have been coming from my milk.  The NP said sometimes moms have "rusty pipes" that cause babies to have blood tinged spit up.  But once again, because of the volume of blood, they outruled that as a cause too.

They think the most likely cause at this point was a small tear when he was either burping or spitting up that caused the blood and the next time he got sick, the vomited the blood that was gathered in his tummy.  They said we won't know for sure.

I'm really sorry to hear that he was in the NICU.  Even under the best cir****tances, it's not a fun place to have your child.

Glad to hear he's doing better and will be coming home soon.

LOL...he must have been talking to other little boys about what was coming if he didn't act quickly.  I'm glad that he's getting to come home and that they haven't found anything 'bad' wrong with him.  Hopefully this was a one-time fluke and you never get the crap scared out of you like that again!

That is great that he gets to go home. I couldn't imagine what I'd do if that were my child. Probably go nutball crazy! I'm a HUGE worrier. Thank God he's doing well!
