intro and questions

This is my first time looking at this forum. I am 5 weeks post op RNY. I decided it was time to have surgery the day I learned of my third loss. I had an ectopic followed by 2 miscarriages. (all back to back to back). I still greatly want to have a second child. (however they will be further apart in age than we had hoped).

I know I want to lose as much weight as I can and to be as successful as I can prior to getting pregnant, but I do have some questions from those who may have already begun this journey of pregnancy after WLS.
1. How did you decide when to start trying to conceive. (time frame or weight loss goal?)
2. If you had a baby before loosing all you excess body weight was it dificult to lose weight after the pregnancy?
3. Did you continue to lose weight during the pregnancy (especially if pregnant fairly recent after surgery)?

Thank you for reading my post I welcome any advice or comments.

Hello! SOrry to hear of your losses but congrats on your surgery!

1) 18-24 months or until you are at a stable weight for at least 6 months and have good labs
2) I was about 20 pounds from goal pre-pregnancy but don't know how easy it will be to loose as I am still pregnant
3) I lost 15 pounds in the first 13 weeks because of  morning sickness and changes in metabolism. OB wasn't concerned because I still had weight to loose, she said if I was thinner she would have worried. I'll be 24 weeks on friday and I am still down 1 pound since finding out I was pregnant.

Oh and I was 2 years out when I was given the OK to TTC by my OB and surgeon. SInce you are so recent out from RNY you need to make sure that you are using a barrier method of contraception (condoms, diaphram etc). THe "rules" of waiting to get pregnant are for yours and your baby's benefit. SUre accidents do happen but as with other aspects of our life it is best to prevent them. The pill alone isn't proven to be effective enough alone because we don't absorb it well enough post op.

Good luck! Hope that this helps

Hiya nice to meet ya... Sorry for your losses and congrats on your surgery.

1.) I was in no way TTC I wanted to wait at least 18 months post OP, but got pregnant 4 months out. I was 519 when I had surgery, and was 412 when I found out I was pregnant...

2.) This is my second pregnancy and my first was pre op and I was 400 lbs even then. I only gained 18 lbs with my daughter but after I had her within a year I gained over 100 lbs. Which is why I chose to have the surgery.

3.) So far with my pregnancy I have lost  58 lbs leaving me at 354 lbs I am now 24 weeks pregnant with twins... and 9 and a half months post op. It is so hard this early out and being pregnant but all is well with myself and my babies. The best thing to do is wait at least a year before you TTC.  But I do wish you my best... the surgery is the best thing I could have ever done.  Take care and message me if ya wanna chat ever...

Since I was told I'd never have kids, I wasn't too worried about birth control after surgery.  I was 9 months post op when I got pregnant.  I had lost 137 lbs, but needed to lose about 35 more to get to goal.  I've still never hit my goal weight.  My weight loss totally stopped.  I gained 27 lbs with my son, and lost it all, but couldn't seem to get my weight loss started again.  I LOVE my son and consider him a miracle, however, I still wish I would have had the chance to finish my weight loss.  I would suggest following your doctor's guidelines and waiting 18 months or so.  That way, you have the chance to lose as much weight as possible, making you the healthiest mommy you can be.

Congrats on your recent surgery!

I was 3 months out when the surgeon told me I could stop taking birht control. I was actually already pregnant when I stopped but didn't know it. I was 3 months out when I got pregnant. I am now almost 8 months out and I am 21 (tomrrow) weeks pregnant.

Good luck to you in your journey and welcome!
