My mother-in-law's good friend runs a non-profit dedicated to getting children eye EXAMS not just "vision screenings" (a big difference).  Right now most schools require or perform screenings... but those screenings don't catch a lot of issues that can cause learning problems / frustration / behavor problems, etc in children.

(This happened to my husband as a child - he had some issue with focusing in his eyes that was undiagnosed for 8 years - by that time he already was way behind in school, frustrated by his inability to play sports and his self esteem was shot.

When they finally realized he had a vision problem it was "easily" solved by some eye therapy / exercises and corrective glasses for a year.  Did this cause his reading problems?  I don't know... but if it had been found years earlier he probably would have had a much better school experience! )

Anyway....  She loved the picture of Cooper she wanted to use him in her "blog" this month.

I truly didn't realize the first eye exam should be around 6 months of age!

Here is Cooper's "part"  :

Cooper is such a cutie!!   I love seeing his pictures.

We've been very proactive about eye exams for Sadie....her daddy has a hereditary eye disease that has caused him to become legally blind so we want to be sure she gets exams regularly.    She's been in a few times already...first one was at 9 months of age per the reccomendation by the pediatrid opthalmologist here in town.   He actually thinks she has astigmatism in both eyes and is watching that now....she may end up with glasses for it soon.   My oldest who is now almost 20 was diagnosed with lazy eye very very young...like an infant...we got early intervention and it was great for her.   I think it's very important.
