I am scared

I just found out that I am having twins. I really don't know how I am going to be able to get in enough nutrients to supply the twins and myself. I read I am supposed to consume 2700 calories a day. I've been trying to eat every 30 minutes. I have an appointment with a dietician on 2-11, hopefully I can get better info on how to do this then.

Congrats on the twins! I was also surprised at my first visit to find out I was expecting twins too. I was worried about the calories and food at first too- but I had a lot of nausea and really haven't been able to make any specific numbers. However, my twins have not suffered. I have kept up a good vitamin regimen with monthly checks on my blood levels. At my last ultrasound (That was at 19 weeks) both twins were actually slightly heavier than average- which is always a good indicator for outcome! I did get the book "When you're expecting twins, triplets, or quads" by Dr. Barbara Luke. She talks about nutrition which I read but of course cannot follow. However, the rest of the book is great and really informative. I would recommend it. My Dr. said that the bottom line is I won't be able to eat like a mother of twins who hasn't had RNY. I need to do what I can and ensure I get the vitamins and water. I have been doing that despite nausea, and things are progressing really well. Good luck though! I know I was stressed out in the beginning about the calories and outcomes, but I can only do what I can do.

I have been taking a multi vitamin, a calcium citrate and a prenatal vitamin. The nausea hasn't been too bad. I find if I go more than an hour without eating I start to feel nauseas.
But if I eat the wrong thing I dump and feel nauseas that way too. This is going to be interesting.

You need 2000mg of calcium citrate, in 500-600mg doses, b12, and iron.

And you'll need labs every 8 weeks to check to see if anything else is dropping.

But congrats on the twins!

Congrats... I am also having twins, I was so shocked when I found out and I got pregnant 4 months out from RNY... I kept asking myself how the hell am I gonna eat for twins. but I am 24 weeks today and I am doing fine. Somedays I cant eat and others I force myself but my NUT told me 3000 cals... I only do 1700 and it's more then enough I got a second opinion from a high risk Dr. and she said 3000 was way to much for my pouch. I eat every hour-hour and a half but there growing right on track. um.. I am sure you will be fine...  take care :)

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I just want both of them to be o.k, so I will do anything and everything that I have the power to do to make sure that happens.

Congratulations!  My husband and I are adopting boy/girl twins that are due in April and we just found out that we are pregnant.  I am so happy but I am nervous about how many babies I am carrying.  It seems to be a common trend to get pregnant with twins after weight loss surgery.  I will find out 2-16 and we will be happy with whatever they tell us but I am nervous about getting enough nutrients for the baby.  Let me know if you find any good tips and I will do the same for you.

Thanks.
