Possibly Pregnant, have questions!

Hello Ladies!
I am almost at my goal weight. I am currently 170lbs, but losing (I lose every 6 wks, odd as it seems, it has been the way I have lost weight since my RNY). I should be losing about 10/12lbs over the next week.

Friday was my fertile day and hubby and I were TTC Friday & Saturday did the bd. Woke up Saturday feeling nauseas and peeing every 5 minutes. (I had 3 pregnancies and 2 of them I knew right away, one I did not and that one ended at 7 weeks). So I know that it is VERY possible that I am pregnant.  Today my nipples started to get tender, I am so bloated, cramping, very tired, peeing all the time, and , of course, nauseas.

My concern is my weight. I expect to be in the 160's this by the time I miss my period.  Did anyone have a trouble during pregnancy with losing weight or gaining too much? What about after your baby? Did you have any trouble losing or was your pouch stretched out from eating too much during pregnancy and you couldn't lose after the baby? I really want this baby but I would hate to have this baby and then be stuck being just above my goal weight of 150.

My husband and I felt the need to start TTC now since he will be deploying again soon and it will be yet another year before I could get pregnant again and I might not want to at that point, and I will also be 34. Down syndrome runs in my family AND his, so we want to decrease our chances by not getting pregnant at 34/35 years old. We have 2 boys who are healthy yet both born premature, one was 3lbs and one was 4lbs. Hoping for a healthy GIRL! LOL. But I will be happy with another boy too!
Thanks ladies!

At this point, it's impossible that you are feeling these symptoms due to pregnancy.  The egg hasn't implanted yet, and you wouldn't be feeling pregancy symptoms until 1-3 days minimum AFTER the egg has implanted, which usually happens 6-12 DPO.

Your current symptoms are from progesterone being released.  Isn't it annoying?  This damn hormone (which causes PMS symptoms) mimics pregnancy symptoms so well, that every.freaking.month - even though I know better - I swear I'm pregnant.  And yet, so far, nothing (and I've been taking tests, so a chemical pregnancy is unlikely).

The TTC board I belong to has a saying - if the symptoms are from pregnancy, you will test positive :)  I'm not saying you won't get pregnant this cycle - just that it's impossible to know yet as it's pretty much impossible that anything besides fertilization has happened yet.  Likely the egg is only leaving the fallopian tube today-ish.

TTC SUCKS!  (well, other than the BDing ;))

T :)

P.S. obviously I can't address the other issues, I don't have a pouch or a baby to compare anything to, but the other knowledgable women here will surely jump in shortly :)

Thanks for the advice! I wish I could take a blood test right now, I know I am pregnant. I was right on with my other 3 pregnancies and I had symptoms right after as well. Some people can feel it. My mom had 6 kids and felt it right after with all of them. Maybe it is hereditary. I have PMDD/severe PMS, also, so maybe I just really know my body. I don't have these symptoms with my period. They are totally different and my lmp was 1/13/10. I am ovulating Now. So I can be feeling it. I had d/s on Friday, so I could have been Ovulating then and not realized.
I will know soon.
Thanks!

I understand that your husband is deploying and everything, but why would you purposely start trying to conceive when any reputable weight loss surgeon would have advised you that you need to wait at LEAST a year (for some it is 18 months - 2 years****il you're out of surgery to get pregnant? Do you have clearance from your surgeon? Trust me, I DO understand about the down's syndrome risk but the risk factor does not go up tremendously between the ages of 34-35. It might go up approximately 1%. The incidence of down syndrome in a 34 year old is 1/465. The risk for a 35 year old is anywhere from 1/400 - 1/365 depending upon the source you look at. I'd probably be more concerned about your history of preterm birth, even though your children are subsequently healthy. Women with a previous preterm birth are at higher risk for a recurrence at a rate of 15–50% depending on number of previous events and their timing. And in your case since you've had 2 preterm births, the incidence is probably closer to the 50%. Waiting until your weight is stable is why surgeons recommend waiting at least a year before achieving pregnancy.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but have you thought about those issues that you are concerned about regarding your RNY and how it could impact not only you but an unborn baby? Yes, women have had successful pregnancies being just a month out of surgery, but that doesn't mean it was planned or thought out as things happen. Just think about it and consider EVERYTHING involved in this decision. First off, you need to get clearance from your surgeon. With the previous problems you've had with pregnancy, you don't want to add more problems on top of a pregnancy that will already be labled high risk.

I also second what the previous poster said. You could not know right now if you are having pregnancy symptoms if you just tried to conceive on Friday & Saturday. I think those are just "wishful thinking" symptoms or symptoms from hormones as she said. When we are trying to conceive, any symptoms that we know of as pregnancy related seem to "materialize" and we start dwelling on them even though we've felt them during previous cycles when we weren't TTC.

Good luck with everything!

Yes, I do have the okay from my surgeon. I have a special high risk team of obgyn's on post that will be working with me. We already had a consult. & you CAN know right away if you are pregnant. Some people might find that impossible, but I did with my other pregnancies, and I know now. If my ovulation day is off by a day or so, and I actually ovulated on Friday, then I can be pregnant and would have symptoms right away. If you go to some pregnancy message boards, there are a lot of woman who knew right away. It is very possible. I can test as early as next week which is a week before my period is due, and I will know for sure.
Thanks for the info.

I think you can have a feeling you're pregnant, but technically pregnancy symptoms don't start until the egg implants. I'm not trying to argue, but a pregnancy message board is not hard scientific fact. Yes women know their body very well, but that does NOT mean that they have true pregnancy symptoms two days after they have sex and may have fertilized an egg. The changes just have NOT happened in the body yet. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this point. It's great though that you think that you already know though. That way, you can start very early with changing your vitamins to what you'll need during pregnancy and if you aren't pregnant this cycle, at least you'll have the jump on having the extra folic acid that a prenatal vitamin provides. You may want to contact your OB tomorrow and tell them that you are having pregnancy symptoms, when you ovulated, that you're not quite a year out from having gastric bypass surgery and that you want advice on what you need to start taking concerning vitamins and that you'll need bloodwork and see what they advise.

It's great that you have clearance from your surgeon. That is the most important thing. Your surgeon and your OB should work together to determine what vitamins you need after you've had bloodwork.

Let us know when you test and what you find out. I hope it all works out for you. This board is a great resource for people experiencing pregnancy after WLS so we hope you stick around and take advantage of everyone's experience.

I have a prescription for vitamins from the obgyn's on post and I have been taking them for a month. My surgeon only recomended to wait a year, and I am 10 months this week, so they gave me the okay.  I will let you know when I test.

So you're on top of the vitamins. If it is determined that you are pregnant, sometimes they tweek them after doing blood and what not, depending on if you're deficient on anything. Like when I had labs done after finding out I was pregnant, I was a little anemic. I was given prenatals which have more iron than my multi's. So he'll recheck those on Thursday to see if my anemia is better or needs supplementation. I will also have all of my other vitamin & protein levels checked at that time as well and depending on what is found, my OB will work in conjuction with my surgeon (I'm sure) to see what I need to take. (Even though I'm almost 3 years out, I STILL have some nutrition issues)
