Question

I am just a week and a half post op from getting the roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery.  I did have a post op complication of bleeding.  One of the surgeons knicked an artery near the lesser curvature of my stomach.  Needless to say, my surgery went from laproscopic to open.  have all the lap sites and a huge incision from my sternum to my belly button.
Anyways, my question is...my husband wants to know how long we need to wait to engage in our usual sexual activity.  I have a paragard IUD, and have had it for about 6 years.  I know this is reliable birth control.  I don't want to jarred around too much, but would like to keep him happy too.  I would appreciate all feedback on the topic.  I did not get clear instructions upon discharge.  Thanks

Surgeon typically recommends 6 weeks for open.. but whenever you feel comfortable. :)

I ended up with open as well and my dr, said six weeks...but honestly about week two I was in such miserable shape, I wouldn't have let anyone come near me...and month nature came all at the same time (and I hadn't had a period in about five years)....you might want to ask the dr. to be safe...good luck!  Stacey

Thank you so much.  Appreciate the info.  I saw that Dr. Schirmer did your surgery.  Dr Hallowell did mine...he works with Dr. Schirmer.  :)  Take care, and thanks.  Heather

Um.  You want to keep him happy?  What about YOUR health -- does he not care about that?

Tell him to take a cold shower.

6 weeks -- just like having a baby.  It takes quite some time to heal from that kind of incision.

Edited to be nicer.  And yes, this IS nicer.  Andrea needs to go away for a bit.

He cares absolutely about me and my well being. Just a curiousity we both had.  Thanks though.
