The name game

Ok, I see you ladies post names on here and ask for suggestions to help narrow things down. We, however have a problem. We dont have ANY names to narrow down for girls! We have had a boys name since BEFORE we got preggo, but we have no clue as to names we want for girls. We do know that we dont want something too average like Nicole or Heather or Jessica (beautiful names, but we want something a lil different!) but not something too different like Lyric, Sparrow or Apple. I like the name Avery for a girl. He dosent. He likes Naomi. I dont. Uggh. His family wants names like Cassidy or Alexis. We dont like them. And they dont like anything we think is a maybe. Sometimes I feel like crying. Sooo, im asking for some suggestions... or LOTS of suggestions. LOL. We wont know the sex for a few more weeks, and I have a suspicion its a boy anyways, but i's like a girl name just in case.

Thanks Ladies!
Jen

I think Avery is beautiful, so beautiful that I would try to work the name in conversation to get your hubby used to calling her that if you find out its a girl, lol. "There's so many things to get before Avery's here!" But if you really want more ideas that hubby may agree on:

Kylie, Amber, Briann, Bria, Bella, Taylor, Jade, Riley, Danica, Maylin, Ava, Eva, Brielle, Alexa, Chelsea, Carley, Morgan, Peyton, Masie (Macy), Cali (like short for California), Camille. Clarke, Greenley, Angelica, Presleigh

I love name games, but thats all ii could think of now.

As a side note: As long as you and hubby agree on a name, thats all that matters. I wouldnt worry too much about others not liking the name you two pick. They'll either live with it or they'll find a nickname that everyone will end up calling her anyway.

Congrats!!

I agree that the decision should be yours and your husbands...you will never be able to please everyone one and either way you and your hubby may still end up compromising with each other. Hectic stuff....names....so much pressure...lol

Naming a baby is a hard decision for sure... If you're anything like me, I knew I was having a boy from the get go... At first I was going to name him Aiden but there were just far too many Aiden's around... So while watching XXX w/ Vin Diesel (my favorite actor) one night, his name was Xander in that movie... I loved the name!! Although I chose to spell my sons name with a Z instead as not to be confused with the full name of Alexander...

Anyhow, I sympathize with you on the naming game... Just don't let family influence naming your child totally... I believe that is up to two people - you & hubby... You are the two who have created this beautiful like together and you two are the ones who should name the baby... It's a pet-peeve of mine when family butts in too much... What matters is that you & the hubby agree on the name, not what everyone else thinks....

My suggestion is to use the names that you & hubby like at least as a middle name... Movies are a good source for name ideas too.... Here are a couple ideas:

Ava Marie
Sierra Nicole

I'm not so good with girl names either but there are the two that popped into my head... Goodluck to you Jen in your search to name the baby... I know you'll make the right choice... :-)

I think the ladies have given you some awesome name suggestions!  I too have no idea yet if I'm having a boy or a girl, but I have given "some" thought to names I like.. Avery was among my top choice for a girl's name or boys.  I also really like Emery.  Right now, for a girl I like Alice, Bronwyn and Stella.  I gad said, early on, that if I had a girl, I wanted to name her Mimi - partly after my sister, Dominique-Emmanuelle, who we used to call Mimi when she was little..but then she went and used Mimi as my niece Lola's middle name, so that choice is out of the running now... For a boy, my hubby likes Thor (sooo not happening!).. I like Felix, Conrad, Jack..

My main issue with names is that I am French and would prefer a name that works in both languages so that people won't massacre the name when they try to pronounce it.. and I'm mindful of choosing a more traditional name rather than making one up just because I know I'll be the type of Mommy who'll want to buy my child personalized trinkets and, the rarer the name, the harder they are to find!

It's so crazy you mention the name Mimi, because we had considered that name! My beloved grandma who has passed away I called Mimi as a special name, and thought of naming a girl Mimi in her honor. But then I had some issues with people saying it was a nickname, not a real name, so we moved on. And so true about finding things with names on it! I love them, and itr really is hard to find ones with super different names!

I agree with the PP - who cares who likes the name, the only ones that have to are you and hubby. Although I ended up having my wonderful baby boy. Andy and I decided if we had a boy he would choose the name, if we had a girl, I would choose the name - however, the other couldn't absolutely hate the name. Originally Drew was going to be a III so he would've been Andrew Henry III - luckily I was able to convince Daddy that he shouldn't name him that (there are multiple reasons why, but mainly because I didn't like it - LoL.) So we decided to go with Drew because it was close to Andrew and he wouldn't get called Andy like his dad. And Andy randomly came up with Alexander one night. We didn't want any common middle names (William, Michael, Anthony, blah blah.)

Now, if Drew was going to be a girl, I really liked Piper (Andy hated it) so we moved on. He was going to be Audrina Paige. I also chose Kari Nicole (incase we had twin girls of coarse, lol.)

Thank you all so much for your suggestions!! I love them all, and am taking notes! We went out and got a baby name book today, and went through it and circled the names we agree on. So we now have like 25 maybes LOL. Avarie is one he let me circle, so we'll see. He likes Rose, ALOT, and I dont. So maybe if I let Rose be a middle name he'll let me have Avarie as first name :) Time will tell! Thanks again guys!
