So much I don't know
So...I am gonna be a first time mommy...and I feel sooo lost when I walk into Walmart's infant area or Baby'sRUS(and stickershocked there too). What do you really need the first 6 months? Can anybody give me a definitive list of stuff they really needed and maybe some of the stuff that was a godsend?
It'd be a HUGE help for us first timers!

I absolutely loved my pack n play with my last three. We are on 4th child. We lost a baby in 2006 after that I slowly gave baby things away thinking I was done. So we are done to almost nothing. Here are my must haves for when the baby gets here, hope it helps. Sleepers, undershirts, socks, receiving blankets, pack n play, baby wrap, baby tub (you can do with out if you have too) and a Car seat. I have a crib and a bassinet with wheels. I love the bassinet, because I can wheel it in to what ever room I am in, while the baby sleeps. Of course tons of diapers and wipes. I will also be nursing exclusively, if you are going to bottle feed our supplement you of course will need bottles. You will also want to make sure you have nursing pads for you. A life savior for me after my to vaginal births where tucks with witch hazel, giant pads, and stool softeners.
With my first one I did use a baby swing but I did not use it at all with the rest. It was too hard to explain to a two year old why he could not push his baby sister in the swing so fast.(LOL) My kids are all two years a part, so I gave up and gave the swing away.

When you register at Babies R Us they give you a list of essentials that's really pretty good. I registered for a lot of the stuff they suggested.
One thing I already got that I think is going to be really handy is the Graco Travel Lite crib. It's like a Pack N Play but it's smaller so you can wheel it through doors & such. We plan to keep it our bedroom instead of a bassinet and it's easier and lighter to pack up if you're going somewhere and want to take it. I got it on Amazon after Christmas because I had a gift card. I'm going to have to get something else for her to sleep in downstairs because I'm sure she'll take some of her naps downstairs. Haven't figured that part out yet.

Lap Band September 2007 / Slip discovered March 2014 after significant regain / Revised to VSG April 29, 2014
Same here! I had posted a few weeks back about "must haves" and have put most of them on my registry.
I am registered at babiesrus.com and target.com and my name is Elizabeth Radlbeck if you want to check it out. Not saying I know I will use all this stuff but it was all recommeded to me by someone that is already a MOm.

gowns, burp cloths, bibs, if you have a 2 story house 2 bouncers, hooded towels, jumperoo (4 months old), plenty of bottles and nipples (the more the better --- less washing constantly)...OH I almost forgot the bath sling. These were my essentials other than a car seat, car seat toys. I did not use a baby bath tub at all...the bath sling was a lifesaver.
I think alot of things depends on the temperment of your baby. A swing is great for some babies, but my daughter needed me to hold her ALL the time. So I got a front carrier that I could put her in when I would do things around the house, to me, that was a must have. Obviously, a car seat. I like the one's with the handle so you can pick the whole thing up if they're asleep and it doesn't bother them. I really think a stroller is not a must have until they're older. If I went grocery shopping, I put her car seat in the cart, if I went to the mall, I wore the front carrier. I didn't even use my crib until my daughter was 4 or 5 months old so that can wait if needed. My daughter hated anything that I put her in. If I wasn't holding her, she hated it, so we have an exersaucer that she used twice! So I wouldn't waste money on that stuff until you know how your baby is. A changing table you don't need, you'll just change the baby on the couch, bed, or floor anyway. I don't think a baby bathtub is necessary. I used the sink and just got a foam cushion to sit her on. It was much easier, no draining the baby bathtub or having to store it somewhere. I'd get about 7 of each of the following but more if you don't do laundry as often: onesies, socks, burping cloths, receiving blankets, pj's. I'd get about 3 binky's if you plan to use them, baby shampoo/soap combo, baby lotion, unless your baby has tons of hair you won't really need a comb, you can use normal wash cloths and towels. Diapers, diaper rash cream (just in case), wipes, and I really think a changing pad is nice to have, it protects whatever surface you're changing the baby on.
You can use regular nail clippers, it is scary, but it works. A baby thermometer is a must just in case also. I think that's it.
