Hi all...so I'm new around here...doing some research.  I am a year and a half out from RNY and about 20 pounds to goal.  I am going to starty "trying" in May.  I've been doing tons of research.....since my last pregnancy was 12 1/2 yrs ago.....I found that dha is really important for brain growth during pregnancy & breastfeeding, I've been eating very healthy and everything but I'd like to find a good dha supplement as well.  Can anyone recommend one that will be well absorbed by us RNYers???

Thanks!!!

Welcome.  For the first part of my pregnancy I took Prenate DHA, a prescription prenatal.  They were pricey ($20) compared to the one I switched to ($5).  You can buy Expecta Lipil DHA from any store (Target, Wal-mart, etc).  I was taking that with my cheaper vitamins but noticed during my pregnancy it made my stomach hurt.  There are a ton of different brands of DHA available though.

Good Luck!

I used Lipil with DD.  With #2, I crave a lot of eggs so I just get the ones with the DHA in them.

Thanks everyone...I found some DHA at CVS and will start taking it soon.  30 for $10.99 seemed a little high but I'm gonna keep looking around.  Thanks for the warm welcome and the info.

DHA is really important for brain and eye development.  When I was pregnant with Elijah, I took a prescription (non-generic) prenatal vitamin with DHA.  Once he was born and I was breastfeeding, I started taking a DHA supplement recommended by my WLS nutritionist--Carlson Lab's Mother's DHA.  She recommended it because it's full strength and pure--no contaminants (obviously vitally important if you are pregnant or breastfeeding).  Two a day have 200 mg of DHA and 100 mg of EPA.  I'm taking them with this pregnancy.  Elijah, who is 17 months old, drinks the Horizon whole milk with DHA.
