I don't have GD... but I'm hypoglycemic :(
So I called my nurse this morning to get the results of my Hemoglobin A1C (instead of the Glucose tolerance test) and she said they were fine. The normal range is 4.8-5.9 and mine was 5.2. So I don't have GD, but I'm on the other end of the spectrum with hypoglycemia.
My iron was good too, it was 37.4 and they like to see above 37. I told her about my glucose test the other day at the health screening I had for hubby's insurance that it was 71 and she said oh dear, yeah that is hypoglycemic. She said just to eat every 1-2 hours and make sure to eat more proteins and fats for meals and snacks. She didn't say to monitor my glucose levels, which I'm kind of glad. She also said that when my baby is born, to tell the nurses that I'm hypoglycemic and that I'll have to feed the baby every 2-3 hrs for sure. She said that it happens to some women that they get the hypoglycemia while pregnant and to not worry. She said it'll probably go away after the baby is born, but I wonder if it will with me having the RNY. I guess I'll just have to wait the 10 1/2 more weeks until I have my baby boy I guess.
So for those of you who had the hypoglycemia, what was it like after you had your baby? Does it affect the baby at all at first when they are born? Did you notice if your hypoglycemia went away after a week or did it stay? I know some of you responded to my other thread about this and said it didnt' go away, but did it get better once you had your baby?
Thanks!!

I had the exact same thing. They gave me the same advice, eat every 2-3 hours, mostly protein. When I was pregnant I did the gluclose tolerance test and 1 hour later the result was 63. I could have told them that, I almost passed out at my testing. I know when mine is low as I get a headache and feel shakey. I immediately eat almonds or a cheese stick. Takes about 10 minutes to feel better. Gluclose tablets work almost instantly. I am still hypoglycemic. On a side note it seems to affect my mood, so I been doing some self research to help. I know it may be hard to eat that many times but you dont have to have steak dinner 6 times a day.LOL heres a sample of mine:
B: Protein Shake (I have that everyday but eggs/whites are also good) NO PANCAKES OR CEREAL!
S: Light cheese stick - 1/2 apple (too much sugar in whole) or almonds
L: Mostly salad with meat everyday (if I eat carbs, I get really tired and hungry faster)
S: Another cheese or morningstar chicken patty or veg burger or almonds
D- Mostly protein....veggies, sometimes potato or rice
S- Half sandwich or almonds
Bedtime - all vitamins and 1/2 banana

LOL at your mood comment.
Back when my sugars would take longer to drop, hubby would be able to tell my sugar level by my mood.
"Uh-oh. ***** mode. You need to eat."
Not kidding. He would actually say those words. Which wasn't exactly smart. Amazing that the man still has his parts.
Now when it drops, it plummets so quickly there's no mood change. Now when I'm pissy it's headache or sleep deprivation.. or long day with the kids.
