hello..question?????????
I trained as a professional body piercer for a tattoo shop here in Alabama. Can I just offer you some advice? If you decide to get your daughters ears pierced (which i personally agree with you and doing it early) please make sure to get it done somewhere that the people use NEW and STERILE equipment (and piercing guns). Alot of times places like Claires, walmart, etc. reuse the gun. Let me tell you a little about that nasty little gun....
It has a trigger mechinism in it that shoves the jewelry through the ear then snaps back into its original placing in the gun...when it jerks back, it takes with it a very tiny amount of blood and tissue from the person's ear who is being pierced. then the next person goes to get their piercing and low and behold not only do they get a beautiful peice of jewelry but they also get those tiny particles of flesh and blood.
even though the gun is cleaned with alcohol it isnt cleaned or steralized on the inside where the mechinasim is. so my advice if you want to get your daughters ears pierced, even though its a lot harder to watch, take them to the dr and allow him to pierce them with a needle as apposed to the gun, or even to a tattoo/piercing studio where they can do them and you know everything is sterile.
Just my 2 cents. Hope it was helpful.

I worked on the mother/baby floor of the hospital for a number of years. It was pretty common for some of our hispanic families to pierce their daughter's ears before leaving the hospital. Like a previous poster said, it was usually a grandmother doing it (usually with those piercing earrings that had the sharp point on the end). Of course, the pediatricians had a coronary every time, but there were never any problems that I could see.
I am getting Hayvanns ears done at 12 weeks which is when they told me it was safe. I cant wait!! I would have done it already but I wait like they tell me :(. My mother in law is against it too but I cant stand her either so I cant wait to see her get frustrated when she sees her cause she wont complain to me she will only complain to my hubby. :) So bad but she is my daughter not hers. Do what you feel best with.

I did not get my ears pierced until I was 18. I got it done with the piercing gun and it hurt but nothing I couldn't handle, then later I had more ear piercing done, but with a piercing needle. It was much less painful that way. It seems more scary with a needle, but it's safer, cleaner, more precise, and hurts less. If you're going to get them done, I'd say go to a professional place, not a place that uses the piercing guns.
Hi Meleney,
I had my daughters ears done when she was 18 months old. BIG mistake! She remembered the pain and wouldn't let me clean them like I needed to. Any time I got close to her ears she would freak! one got a little infected but nothing major. Thank goodness!
I had mine done when I was 6 or 7. I barely remember it but I wantedd my DD done before that age. Next time around if this baby is a girl, I will have them done early like 3 months so she won't pull at them and I can clean them like they need to be.
But I guess I do need to talk to my DH about it. I didn't have to do that with my DD because I was the only parent. But I have remarried so this baby is our first together. He has a daughter from a previous relationship and I have 2 of my own. We are hoping for a boy since my DH would love to have a son. Although he considers my son to be his, he is hoping to have his own as well. But we don't really care what it turns out to be.

I chose to pierce my daughter's ears when she was 6 weeks old. It was done at her pediatrician's office. I have never regretted my decision to have her ears pierced. The way I see it is she is my child-(I was the one who pushed her and her twin brother out) whether her father or paternal grandmother had disagreed, that is their business. I would have still gotten her ears pierced. But, that's just me!!
You should decide what is best for you and yours.

My niece is 10 and she keeps telling me if I want the girls' ears pierced to do it now. LOL. She refuses to get her ears pierced and wishes that my sister had done it when she was a baby so she wouldn't anticipate or remember the pain. I SO want to get my girls' ears pierced as does hubby, but now I'm scared of hurting them! I never felt that way before, so I don't know what's triggering that now. LOL.
My brother owns a tattoo shop...I think we will be taking the girls there.
