How Long Did it Take for you to get Pregnant post WLS?

One of the main reasons why I had WLS was to conceive in a healthy body, as suggestion of my PCP. I'm 36 and will be 18 months post op in June of this year.

I'm planning to start trying around the very end of the year, close to 2 year post op. How long did it take trying to get pregnant?

This will be (hopefully) my first baby, so I'm surveying to have a better idea.

I got pregnant 7 months post RNY and had a miscarriage. Then I got pregnant with this one 13 monts post op and everything is going really good. My main reason for having the surgery was also to be able to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy. The pregnancy at 7 months post op was an accident. I seem to be pretty fertile now. I had PCOS before surgery and had to use medication to conceive then (also miscarried that little one). But I was able to conceive without meds both times post op.

Good luck! Hope to see you on the board soon announcing your BFP.

I had surgery to conceive also.  I got pregnant 9 months post op.  About 14 weeks preggers currently.  Plan on trying for the second shortly after this baby turns 12-18 months old.

some people just need to lose the weight and they get pregnant othes try and try with no outcome or with disappointment.  i think its more on a case by case basis.  best advice...talk to your dr.  Im sure your out far enough now where its safe for you and baby.

We're on cycle #5 but I've been close to goal pretty much the whole time and trying on and off for 7 years, we decided to go a little early - and yes, I know I am breaking the rules.  I don't suggest anyone else do the same.

I haven't been in months to the LW board, WOW, you look AWESOME!!  I saw the name but didn't recognize your pic, you look so different, and so good!  I think the last time I was around your DH had just had his WLS.  Hope all is well with him too :)

I was 2 years out from my RNY. WEnt off BC pills in January, got pregnant in April. Miscarried in June - given the OK to try in July and pregant in August :)

ETA - I was told pre-op that my PCOS would prevent me from having kids...

I became very fertile post RNY.  I got pg at 9 months out on our first try.  We tried that early because I assumed it would take a few months and I wanted to be able to go to the OB saying I tried July through etc so I didn't have to wait so long.  Sadly that baby was ectopic and I was given medication to miscarry very early.  I took two cycles off and then got pg right away again.  I am not 16 weeks pg and things seem to be going well.  I consider myself very lucky.  I experienced infertility following the birth of my son and tried for over a year.  Surgery for me was about being a parent again.

Do you have history of infertility?  Even though you would like to wait for a few months, it may be in your benefit to start charting your cycle to see if you are ovulating.  There is a great website called fertility friend that could help you as well as the book Taking Charge of your Fertility.  I bought myself a fertility monitor but didn't even use it because I hadn't bought the test sticks yet.  If we decide to try again I will definitely use it though.

Good luck!

I didn't even try @ less than 1 year post-op.

I think surgery made me way more fertile.

It took me 2 yrs to get pg with my first and 14 months (with 2 rounds of clomid) to get pg with my 2nd baby (both pre op).   I lost 130 pounds post op and started trying for a baby in July (13 months post op) and got pregnant the first time!   So it made me really fertile to lose all that weight.   I was so amazed to get pg the first time after it took so long with the first two!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!
