What are you eating?!

Hi ladies!  I am fairly new to this particular board and I must say I've been enjoying lurking around!  Anyway, I'm curious to know what you are eating to make sure you and your precious bundle are getting enough protein, vitamins and minerals to keep baby healthy and strong.

I am currently 15 weeks pregnant and have so far lost 5 lbs in my first trimester.  I don't usually have any difficulties eating - I don't dump on sugar or fat unless I go overboard, so there aren't many restrictions in terms of what I can't stomach, except maybe for bread and most pork products (pouchzilla just doesn't like dead pig LOL).

I guess I'm concerned that I'm not eating enough and worried that my baby will measure small.. my OBGYN has no experience with Post RNY patients as I am his first!  I spoke to my surgeon's Nut and she seems to think that I am doing everything just right - I try to eat from all the food groups, I snack if I feel hungry or light-headed, etc etc...

What have you been doing?

Hi there,

I eat what I normally eat wether pregnant or not.  Just make sure  you are getting your vitamins and supplements in.  It's a good idea to make sure you get all the protein in as well.  I believe we need 70 to 90 grams a day.  I still do protein shakes...

I too am eating the same as before I got prego.  My OB has talked to my surgeon a couple of times so he has been staying well informed on what I need.  Both my OB, Surgeon and Nut all agree that I should stay on my pre prego meal plan.  The baby will only take an extra 300 calories or so.  Some people take in 1000 extra calories, but its really not needed.

Just make sure to take your vits, get your protein in, lots of water, the usual stuff!

Good luck and welcome!!!

I don't count calories and I know I'm not getting much in. Baby is measuring right on and robs me of everything it needs. I take my vitamins and eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I'm getting close to 7 months gestation and weigh the same I did when I got pregnant... lost a little at first and have maintained since then. Pregnancy has been like lipo for me. I'm not actively trying to lose weight but I'm thinner everywhere except my ginormous belly. The scale may not reflect so, but from the looks of it (and considering that my belly feels like a 50lb weight strapped to my abdomen) I'd say I've lost probably 10+lbs since I got pregnant.

It's normal for us post-ops to not eat society's idea of "enough" and our babies are born just fine. I've had two OBs this time around (switched from the first to the second). Both of them and my surgeon all agree that my non-weight gain is fine. My surgeon says it's not entirely normal for band post-ops but he's happy nonetheless.
