Hello. I am new to this section of the forum... I had my RNY in April of 09. I am not quite a year out yet. But I am thinking ahead. I really would like to be pregnant this year before my husband deploys again in November. I was wondering how long everyone waited before having surgery, was it a year or longer? Also, I was wondering, did you lose weight during pregnancy??? Not even sure if that could happen.... anyway, what about after your pregnancy? Was it hard to lose the baby weight?
When I had my first son I gained 10lbs and lost 40lbs in the first 3 months, then my 2nd son I gained 25lbs and lost 20lbs in a year. So I hope I can lose the weight afterwards, but I am afraid to get pregnant too soon and not be able to lose the weight afterwards.
Thanks for the help!
Michele

I've heard from a lot of people to at least wait until your weight has been stable for at least 3 months.

I would say wait until you clear it with your surgeon then go for it. Weight is different with everyone though. I know with my first 2 I gained 60-65 pounds. Lost pretty much none. With the baby I just had I gained 14 and have lost it all. I just know many ladies on here say they have trouble with losing the weight. I lost weight in the begining but gained a little at a time toward the end. I dont think I could have done this with m hubby being deployed. You are good!! We live close too :)

I had my RNY 6 months ago and want to get pregnant badly. I know that we are suppose to wait till at least a year out or our weight stabilizes. I have seen that some women on here have gotten pregnant 4-6 months after their procedure and are saying that their babies are fine. Thank you for bringing this up because I want to know, too! So, for those of you who have had pregnancies soon after, please let us know(and the ones right around a year out also).

Are you losing weight? How is the morning sickness? I had it bad with my two boys, not throwing up , but unable to eat and I was sic****il the middle of my 2nd trimester with both of them. If I can't eat, I am sure it is not going to be fun! LOL.

I agree with the some of the other posters.  I think my first stop would be the surgeon's office.  Each surgeon has different rules.  When I first went to mine, he told me to wait 2 years to start trying.  I will be honest, I didn't wait.  When I went for a checkup with my OB/GYN, I called the surgeon before going to see if anything changed because like you I had been reading on this website of some whose doctor told them they could start trying after a year.  When I called I asked about this and they said it was okay to start but they prefer the two year wait.  When I went to my surgeon after going off the pill, the nurse was really mean about it and yelled at me because I wasn't on birth control and that I wasn't  two years out, blah, blah, blah.  When the surgeon came in, it was a different story.  He asked if I was trying and I told him that I just went off the birth control and whatever happens will happen.  He was fine with that and wished me luck as I was walking out the door.  So my advice is talk to you surgeon and go from there.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I appreciate it!  I just moved to a new duty station, we just moved into our new house, I have not found a new surgeon yet. We live in a small town and the 2 I found in my area do not accept tricare or are not accepting new patients. I am having a hard time finding one.
Good luck to you all!

I got pregnant, without cconsulting my surgeon, 9 months post op. i guess im a rebel but i wanted a baby so i went ahead and got preggers. i saw my surgeon after we got a positive test and he said that i'd lost enough weight and to try not to gain more than 15 pounds through out the pregnancy. im six months into it and i did lose about 6 pounds in my first trimester, but i have gained it all back as well as 3 more but it took  until very very recently to gain it all back and then some. i can let ya know how the weight loss goes after baby is born if you want.

good luck!
