Men @ baby showers?

With my first child, we invited men... namely my dad, DHs dad, grandfathers, boyfriends/husbands of friends, etc. and had a really fun cookout/baby shower complete with wine and beer (I think my mom may have even made a couple of pitchers of margaritas). My husband was also in attendance obviously. It was fun to open gifts with him while many of the men talked manly stuff on the back porch. Some even participated in the brief games we played. The primary reason for doing this was to have a nice little (okay, big) party in celebration of the upcoming baby.... receiving more gifts than we would have had it been only women was an added bonus.

Well... I was 19 then and didn't have much concern for what was considered tasteful, traditional, or proper.

I really want to do this again, but this time around I actually have more respect for etiquette standards and don't want to end up looking tacky.

What are your thoughts on showers like this? I'd love to hear from people both for and against them.

We had a co-ed shower. We drove 700 miles one way and I wanted to see ALL my family at one place at one time. :-) We even had a keg... so out the window goes etiquette. LOL It was fun...it was an outdoor bbq, mostly the guys played lawn games and did their thing but it was nice to have everyone there... I would do it again in a heartbeat!  :-)

My SIL threw my babyshower and I don't think she was too happy about us wanting a co-ed baby shower.  TOO BAD!  That is what we wanted and if she didn't then she didn't have to throw my shower.  I thought it was fantastic to have men there.  I have 3 brothers, 2 BIL's, my Daddy, my FIL, etc and I think it is just important for them to celebrate as it is for the women.  We did a BBQ and had beer, etc.

Lots of showers i've been to recently have been coed. The men play the games like changing a diaper on doll, its hilarious. We loved it that way.

You didn't get pregnant by yourself. Why reap the benefit by yourself. I wish my hubby had been at my babyshower as SO many of his extended family, I didn't know, where there and I felt really dumb! Have fun!

I think it's all about preference! Go for it - make it co-ed and let the guys join in teh fun!

I know my MOm and family and mine will be a surprise and women. It's what we do. Hubby will be around at first I'm sure and will then go off to hang whereever the men are then come back to load up the car and get me. That's what happened for my Bridal Shower.

MY theory always is to get togheter all the family and friends whenever possible!

Mine is March 13th and its mainly women. However my husband will be going us when we are opening gifts, as he has MANY Aunts and I don't know them all that well and really dont want to feel ackward.

We both have two sets of parents and it makes for alot of family...we each come from LARGE families.

As of right now our shower is huge and its mainly family.

My baby shower will be co-ed. (3.27.10) The recent ones (over the last three years) have all been co-ed. I think it adds a different touch and it changes the enviroment ALOT.
