Measuring big?
Just had a question to you veteran mommies. The last ultrasound I went to at the high risk doc, the baby was measuring about 3 days ahead of what they have my EDD as. That has been normal b/c she has been measuring that way for months. But...when the doc measured me, he said that the fundus was a little higher than he expected. But..."its probably just you"...???...I am guessing he meant my fat or skin. So...is this a bad thing to be measuring big when they measure you with the tape or does it mean she really could be farther ahead? I had noticed that where I feel my uterus is higher than what the books say, and has been for awhile.
The reason I'm asking(yes, we really shouldnt be reading on the Internet) but I read it could mean the baby has renal issues...or other issues such as not being able to swallow the amniotic fluid, or having too much amniotic fluid. Any thoughts on this would be great!
Tks in advance!

I think that the Doc may be right- It's just you. Measuring big by a few days is not a big deal- the measurements are just averages anyway. This pregnancy, one of my twins is exactly on for the measurement, but he weighs a few ounces more. The other is a few days behind, but my Doc assures me that is no big deal. My first pregnancy always measured small. She was born small but full term and healthy with no problems, so that was just her genetically. if you are really concerned, ask about those problems you read about at your next visit. But a few days is really not much and not to worry about at this stage. Maybe at your next ultrasound you can watch long enough to see her swallow or check the fluid levels to ease your mind.

The measurement itself isn't really as important as if it increases at the right right. For example: With my first son, my tummy always measured two cm. ahead. When I was seeing the doctor weekly, all he worried about was that it increased about 1 cm. per week. He measured much bigger in the ultrasounds as well. They estimated he was over 9 pounds in the middle of the 36th week. He was born at 37 weeks and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces.
This time around, my tummy looks huge and in appearance is much bigger than it ever was with Alex. But most times they measure it, I am measuring right on target.
One thing to keep in mind with the measuring also is this: is the same person measuring you each week? If not, you will end up with very different measurements. My doctor has had med students with him for the past several months so they have had some very different measurements on me. At one point, I had measured 37 cm by one person (35 weeks), the next week a different doctor measured me at 40 cm (36 weeks), and the following week the new med student measured me at 35 cm (37 weeks). My doctor said these number really didn't mean much to him at this point.
If you are getting ultrasounds by the high risk doctor, those measurements are more important. They will monitor your fluid levels and everything as well. Good luck!
