I am pregnant with my 2nd child, 1st one since having weightloss surgery. I had bad morning sickness but now that I'm in my second trimester, the morning sickness is gone, yay! So now here is my question..... Has anybody out there suffered from constipation? I only have 1 BM a week and let me tell u I am very uncomfortable, it is hard to pass gas, it is hard to eat anything after I eat breakfast, I am full feeling for the rest of the day. I need help to cure this constipation any advise is welcomed, thank you.  Oh I go see my Dr. tomorrow for my 3rd OB appointment and I will be asking her questions, I do not want to take my IRON pills anymore.

I'm currently 37 weeks pg and let me tell you for awhile there enemas were my best friend. My Ob said to use them after trying stool softners to no avail. I am on restricted activity so that has alot to do with my constipation but if you're able to exercise as much as possible it helps move things along and try to get in as much fiber a day a you can. Some of the newer fiber tablets that you chew aren't too bad. Above all else no matter what DO NOT stop taking your iron. Even with taking my iron I became so anemic I had to get a blood transfusion.

Of course, check with your doctor, but I am in love with Miralax.  I had problems with constipation from about 1 month post op until about 2 months ago when I finally decided to cave in and find a laxative I could take often or without addicting or harmful qualities.  I was also hoping to find one I could continue into pregnancy, and everything I've read online says Miralax is safe to use when pregnant, I've even seen that some docs recommend it.  Walmart has an Equate version of it that's much cheaper and works great, as long as I use it every day.  I've skipped a few days here and there for various reasons and get back on it asap.

I hope your doc oks it for you tomorrow!

I was told by my OB it was say to take Colace with out the stimulant and if that did not work I could Milk of Magnesia. I had it horribly in the beginning it is has gone better in the last couple of weeks. I hope yours lets up soon.

I was told that eating a pickle spear a day helps with constipation.  Something about the vinegar and what not.  My SIL ate pickles every day and never had one problem while pregnant.  Me, on the other hand, did not and had a lot of problems.  For some pretty instant relief try glycerin suppositories.  They work wonders and don't make you get all crampy feeling.  They were a life saver on more than one occasion.
