OT: Just venting...before I whack someone!
Yesterday, maintenance installed a new washingt machine because the other one kept getting stuck right after the spin cycle...and wasn't spinning enough. Today, my husband put a load of clothes in the washer and we sat down to have a cup of tea while he and my son were watching a game on the Africa Cup (soccer)...Egypt (where my husband's from) and Nigeria. My son got up to do something...walked about five feet from the couch and yelled 'what the heck?!' The 'new' washing machine had flooded the house!!! The water was pouring down the two steps leading to the laundry room, up the hallway, soaked the dining room rug (at least it wasn't MY rug), the alcove by the fireplace (where my son stepped in it), the kitchen, the closet under the stairs, and was nudging up to the living room where we were at...probably about an inch of water. Icy cold water I might add...Painfully icy cold water on my bare feet as I swept it out the freaking door!!! This is the second 'flood' we've had in the last few months...if you recall, we had one in Jakarta right before we packed out...now one here!
I called maintenance and told them I was flooded - covering an area about 30 feet by 10 feet...and they asked 'do you need us to come out?' Ummm...YEAH!
On top of all that...when we were cleaning the mess, my husband slipped on the two stairs coming from the area where the laundry room is at and landed on his back, whacking his arm on the stair (they're ceramic tile stairs). He already has enough back problems as it is - he's had surgery for a pinched sciatic nerve and herniated disks - so that's the last thing he needed.
Anyways...it's all cleaned up...they took the rug out and put it in the garage and will bring a replacement tomorrow, with ANOTHER replacement washer. I guess we're fortunate that 1) we haven't received our 'stuff' yet, so OUR stuff wasn't damaged; 2) my husband hadn't thrown in the wash and went to bed; and 3) we didn't throw a load in on our way out the door.

Bleh...now it's going to be a while before I trust leaving the machine to do its job!
How are you feeling? When are you going to post a baby bump picture?!

One time we lived in a 3rd floor rented apartment with a fireplace. We got a torrential monsoon storm where rain was coming down in buckets and it poured through the faulty chimney and into our apartment. I came home from work to find a maintenance crew already inside and our place full of water and soot. Fortunately the water removal guy had put our cat in a bedroom and closed the door so he didn't escape. It was a disaster and the apartment complex did nothing but remove the water, clean the carpet and fix the chimney. Our ruined belongings were our own problem. That was when I learned that leases are written to protect the landlord, not the tenant.

Uhh yeah...I would be pissed too. Water damage sucks, such a pain to clean up, then you have to worry about mold or mildew, floors buckling, stains, and the hassle of fixing it all. As you said, better theirs than yours though. Sorry for all the issues. InshaAllah your husband will be okay. Back issues are the worst and any little thing can cause them to flare up.
Sorry for not replying to your other post....was busy with Emad in the ER...split his lip on the tub and we ended up in the ER....boys...he is a handful. Speaking of soccer and Africa cup, Mustapha, my hubby, already has Emad in training. LOL He asks me all the time if it is too early for him to set up training field in the backyard...hello the kid is barely 2 and in diapers...can we tackle potty training first. LOL
Ouch. I hope Emad's split lip is OK. Did he have to get stitches or did they 'glue' or butterfly strip it closed? I know that must have freaked you out big time! Give the poor little man some ice cream or a popcycle or something...hopefully that'll help w/the swelling or pain w/o him even realizing it's helping.
I'm picturing Emad and Mustapha out there running in your back yard - Emad waddling around in his diaper chasing the ball. At Emad's age, it's more playing 'keep away' than football...but they'll love it. You should buy one of the mini-goal nets for them to play it with. It's one of those 'boy things' that they really bond over.
Yasser said this morning that he's feeling OK - a little stiff - but he took several Advil before going to bed last night....and I have these stinky pad things that stick on that I bought in Indonesia - they're some sort of Chinese thing - that have pain medicine in them that help when his back is acting up - so he's got them stuck all over for now. I told him to come in to the med unit this afternoon and just talk to them just in case it gets worse, so they'll know what happened.

That does suck - and I have total sympathy ... we have a dreadful front loader, it is a real piece of crap. Anyway it flooded and warped the floor that dh and I installed over the summer ... grrrr ...
God Bless! Jen

I know you probably didn't SAY many bad words when your machine flooded and warped your new floor...too many little ears to repeat anything you said...but I know you probably at least THOUGHT a few of them. Do you have any home insurance that would fix it? I don't own a house - I'm hoping to buy one in the States this year on one of our trips 'home' before prices go back too high - but those are the types of things I'm sort of dreading...because if we buy one now, we'll try to rent it out until we come back in a few years...and I know most tenants don't treated a rented house as well as if it were their own. I've never owned a house...but seeing the constant maintenance of one is sort of scary when I think that I'd be the one paying for or doing it all.
