Question about fetal weight
Gosh my girls were both over the recommended. I was happy, meant a nice healthy strong baby. Ny was 8lb13 and Van was 7lb9, so larger ones. I was so worried about Ny up until she started walking. I always thought she was too chubby but that has gone away now with more activity. Ny weighed 28 pounds at 9 months old!!~! WOWSA and at 21 months old she only weighs 31 pounds but grew in height a whole bunch. She wore 9 month clothing at 4-5 months old but so does Vannah and I'm not worried this time. It will be fine, just dont feed them junk later in life. LOL wait until number 2 you will be much more at ease
Like the previous poster said that they are an estimate. I was having weekly sono's at 30-36 weeks and they told me baby was measuring right on track. When I went into labor at 36 weeks an hour before my son was born they did another sono to check how big he was. They told me he was measuring 6 pounds. He was 4 pounds 10 ounces. That was a big difference. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it.

Liz,
The numbers giving as a result of the ultrasound measurements can be off in either direction. The day my water broke they did an ultrasound to measure baby and make sure I still had enough water to hold me off until 35 weeks. According to that U/S AJ was measuring 4lbs 8ozs. Imagine my surprise when she was born at 3lbs 15ozs. And that was 9 days later when she should have gained at least another 1/2 a pound!
This being said, I wouldn't worry about it!!! :-)
The farther advanced the pregnancy is the less accurate US is at predicting size. I believe it's from the 36 week mark on that it can be off by as much as 2 lbs in EITHER direction, too big or too small.
That being said, at the 20 week mark, it is fairly accurate which is why that's when level 2 US are scheduled for. If I were you, instead of worrying I'd be over the moon happy that my baby is not underweight.
Like a pp said, genetics are genetics and there's nothing you can do about that. However, I know that for myself, many of my weight issues had to do with behaviours and environment. Those are the things you CAN control for your child.
Right now, just enjoy every minute of this precious special time and look forward to nurturing that sweet baby!
