Ok I am 22 weeks with twins and the other day thi**** me out of no where, it's like all the sudden my fatigue is really bad, worse then when I was in my 1st trimester. I go to bed at 9 or so sleep 10-12 hrs wake up and take a 2-3 hr nap a day. Could this be my iron levels? the doctor said they were fine last month I go to the OB next Monday. Should I call or just wait til I go in next week? Also another thing that keeps happening is my heart will race for no reason and then slow down and then race again and then slow down... I am usually just sitting still or laying down when it happens. I read it's normal especially with multiples. But could this be my blood pressure?  I never experienced these things with my daughter that's why I am asking. Also I don't take anything like frolic acid cuz my iron has been fine all this time...I am definitely asking my OB to send me to get it checked on Monday. Thanks to anyone *****ply's :)

1. Folic Acid has nothing to do with Iron Levels... Folic Acid is for brain, eye, and health development of the baby. You should be taking it. Because we mal-asborb my OB has me taking two a day plus my prenatal and a b12.

2. Its completely normal... however if you are concerned I would place a call to your doctor/nurse.
3. If your IRON is low. You would need to start taking IRON pills.

I would agree with everything Sara said. I would like to add that when I had low B12 I was VERY lethargic. You need to get your blood drawn for a full chemical panel to see what you are really low in that could be contributing to making you so lethargic. B12, iron, Vitamin D are all things that when low make me feel lethargic.

Folic Acid is very important to the development of your babies. You should be taking it.

With regards to heart palpitations, I would run that your OB if you haven't already!

I don't know about the other stuff but I spoke to my OB about the irregular heartbeats last week.  She said the most common cause of that was dehydration.  At first I didn't think that was it because I drink at least a gallon of water a day but when I thought about it, I realized the episodes were happening mostly on the weekends when I'm not as good about my water intake.  I'm better about drinking when I'm at work because I just keep my bottle on my desk and refill it all day.  On the weekends, I'm out and about and not really thinking abou****er.

Drink tons of water and lay down on your side if you have one of those episodes but still bring it up with your own doc.

I keep getting the heart palpitations too and it drives me nuts! I had them before I had my lap band and lost weight. I thought I was done with the palpitations, but apparently not. I've heard it's normal, but it's still annoying and a little freaky to me.

I'm not certain why you weren't taking your supplements -- especially folic acid that is critical for neural tube development -- but that's neither here nor there.  Start taking them now.  Are you taking multivitamins or iron?  B12?  Calcium?

You need to go and get a full workup.  Now.  And when I mean a full workup, I don't just mean the serum iron, hct, and hgb that most OB's pull.  This is why I recommend pulling a ferritin, a b12, b1, folate level -- as well as a PTH and 25(OH)D.  The B's are critical for maintaining iron status.  If you don't have sufficient B12, folate, B1 -- you don't get energy from food, you don't absorb iron, you don't get oxygen onto your hemaglobin.  If your crit and hemaglobin falter, you kill your ferritin stores.  If you have no ferritin stores left, then you might need iron infusions.  If you are low in D, then you are leeching calcium from your bones to feed the babies' needs for bones.  Low D can lead to lethargy and depression.

Write these tests down:

ferritin
serum iron
hct
hgb
b1
folate
b12
pth
0,25(OH)D

Go see your OB and have them check these ASAP.  Get your own test reports and don't rely on them to tell you they are sufficient.  Look at them yourself and see for yourself what your levels are.

And if you need help, I'm here.

Thanks so much all they wanted me on was a prenatal, a b12, 1,800 calcium citrate +D, they said I didn't need folic acid or iron cuz my levels are fine... I was wondering about that. I just had blood work done but I am making them send me for a full panel again on Monday... Thanks so much again......

Well, there is folate in your prenate.  But they aren't taking in account your malabsorption.  You really should be taking two vitamins -- either both prenates, one multi and one prenate, or whatever.  But remember that we malabsorb about half of stuff, and some things even more than that.
