What did you take for pain after delivery?  With my preop babies I took Advil, Tylenol did not cut it.  What worked for you?

I took a prescription.  I think it may have been percocet.  I had a c-section though.

I had a c-section in July (Sat. wil be 6 months!), and while in the hospital recovering I was refusing any kind of advil/motrin etc.  due to RNY.  On my 2nd night there, I started having REALLY SEVERE pain, to the point I was shaking, I was running a 101 fever etc. I was CONVINCED I was getting a infection because of my past healing history.  The dr. on call and the nurses came in and they all felt it wasn't infection. They thought it was swelling from the c-section, and were trying to get me to take motrin.  Finally, since I was to the point that I was in su*****redible pain I did take the motrin - and 30-45 minutes later the pain was almost gone!

After that dose, they gave me a I.V. based (I think it was Tordol???), I could only have a total of 6 doses - because of kidney damage if they gave more!  But it was like Motrin, but I could have it in addition to the tylenol/percocet on the alternating schedule.

This worked for me, and it got me through the worst of it right til I went home.  I did take motrin for a week or so at home to help with recovery.  It did REALLY help with the swelling.  BUT, the minute, I could stop taking it, I did.

Ibprofen, the kind they give you in the hospital after delivery. I only took them the first day, pain wasn't too bad but I did use the pads with the built in ice packs and witch hazel pads for the stinging, ahhhh relief!

I was given Darvocet in the hospital along with 800 mg Ibuprofen. When I was discharged they game me no meds or scripts and told me to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen over the counter, up to 800 mg, every 8 hours. I also used the numbing spray, Tucks, and ice packs....they gave me a few of the ice pads you could adhere like a pad to your panties and some of the mesh disposable panties and so I used those. I had a vaginal birth so not sure if it is different with a c-section since surgery is involved.

Norco, which is hydrocodone mixed with tylenol.  I had ASKED for darvocet, but this is what I got.

My surgeon has said that I can take Motrin/Advil if I really needed to just take it with food and a pepcid and not on a regular basis - I would imagine if you have to take a few doses over a few days you'd be fine (I have been in the past) but ALWAYS take it with food and pepcid.

I haven't had ababy yet but I have had surgery- I took liquid motrin- You know the kind you give to kids- I figured out how many teaspoons based on the weight dosage on the back and drank that- It worked great and I haven't had any stomach pproblems- Of course I haven't taken it since then. I figure I'll do that again after this delivery, especially if I have a C-section. With my first pregnancy pre-RNY I don't think I took anything, but that was vaginal. Apparently the liquid doesn't stick to the same places that the pills tend to and doesn't upset the stomach as much in liquid form. Just a thought.
