No, not pics of the hard poops !!  I realize the subject line looked odd like I'd be posting pics of poops.   I take a lot of pics....but not THAT many!

Cooper had his 6 month visit Friday!  He is 22 lbs 11oz and 29.5 inches long.  That makes him 97th percentile for weight, 90th for height and his head circumfrance is 90th percentile.   All is good --

He has one tooth that is popped through but isn't up as far as I think it should be - but I suspect that takes a while.   But it's crooked ??  Does this mean his adult teeth will be crooked?  Anything I can do to help?

Doctor says he can have stage 2 foods (oops - I had already started him on stage two mixed veggies because it's all I can find with spinach).  Well in my search of stage 2 foods I found several that contain tomato sauce  -- for some reason I thought tomatoes were a no-no until 1 year?   I am going to google it.... I just don't want to upset his digestive system.  Although he happily eats cinnamon, nutmeg and other flavorings. (he didn't like garlic!)

Suddenly though he is constipated.....nothing has changed except that sometimes he eats that stage 2 food with spinach.  Besides fruits is there anything I can do to help him ?  He makes the funny grunting noises and faces only to produce one little rabbit turd.  It's funny.  I am tempted to take a video......heh heh.

He sits up perfectly and is starting to try to go from laying to sitting by himself.  He is rocking while sitting which I hope is a good sign ?

His favorite toy  continues to be his dog, Ivy.  (And the TV)

I  ordered a signing video so we will be doing that soon.  We already use "milk".

So that's the Cooper Update.

Thanks!

Cindy

Alex used to get rabbit turds too.  His ped recommended 1-2 ounces of prune juice as needed.  It seemed to do the job.  We'd also use some of the food that had cereal and fruit like cherries or blueberries in them.  Because Alex was so big, he wasn't allowed fruit juice for a very long time.  Although he started drinking V-8 at some point and loved it.  Doc was fine with it and was surprised that he liked it so much.  We certainly didn't need prune juice when he had that, but he didn't seem to have tummy issues with the tomatoes.

V-8 - the tomato based one or the fruit-smoothie one?

I would LOVE to have Cooper enjoy the tomato juice one (I don't) because - salt aside - it's really good for you!

Thank you!

The tomato one.  We discovered that Alex liked it one day when he wanted a drink of my mom's.  He ended up drinking the whole can (the little can).  His dr. was fine with this since I had a hard time getting him to eat veggies.  He did not want him having fruit juice since he was so big for his age (and still is).  We would get the lower sodium store brand one for him and he loved it.

I don't know about the crooked tooth BUT when all of Brantley's teeth started coming in they were gapped like the Grand Canyon! I wondered if, like me, he would have to wear braces. His dentist said actually gaps were good because the perm. teeth would have more room to as they came in and wouldn't overlap one another.

Maybe as more of Coopers teeth come in they will force the crooked one to turn?

Have you thought about apple / prune juice or using a glycerin supp. for the constipation?

Good luck!

My nephews both have gap teeth and they sure are cute!  I guess it will be a waiting game to see if Cooper's are gapped.

I think I am going to have to consider apple / prune juice for him.  I can't stand to see him push and push only to get a little poopy.

Thank you!

As more teeth come in that little tooth may find its place. There is nothing you can do to make them straight until they are older.

I have heard no strawberries or peanut butter until 1 and no honey until 2, but I have not heard no tomato sauce. I would think that being in stage 2 foods that it should be okay, you can always check with your doctor.  The authors of What to Expect when your Expecting, have a book called What to Expect the First Year. I lived out of that book with my first. It is a great resource. I trust it more than the Internet as lots of scary things show up to make us worry.

My daughter would get constipated a lot. I change her from rice cereal to the baby oatmeal and I mixed in teaspoon of prunes and that really helped.

Good Luck and as always he is just too cute,
Emily

Thanks, Emily!

I agree - if the stage 2 foods have tomato sauce it must be okay.  In a few weeks, once he's eaten my cabinet full of stage 1 foods, I will buy him some with tomato in it.

I was giving him rice cereal and I just bought oatmeal, so I hope that will help!

I appreciate your help!

I love Cooper pictures!      Hannah's first two teeth (bottom) came in crooked.   As more teeth came in they straightened quite a bit.  They are still just a little crooked, but not like I feared it would be.   I don't know if it means her adult teeth will be crooked or not, but I've wondered that.

You can always give him prunes if he will eat them to help with constipation.   My ped. suggested 1 tsp of dark karo syrup mixed in with formula.   I'm not for sure that ever helped and there is controversy over babies under one having karo syrup and honey products (due to botulism).

Sounds like with the rocking he's trying to figure out how to get down and crawl.   Start baby proofing now if you haven't already.   Seriously, lay down on the ground and look at all the things that would fun to get into if you 6 months old lol.
