Hey guys! I am new to the board and 7w1d pregnant. I had surgery June 1, 2009. I am a little nervous about the fact I got preggo 6 months after surgery. I have seen several people do this successfully. Any advice??? I will take any I can get. I go in tomorrow for my first OB appointment. Thanks for your help!

The only advice I can give is what I've learned from being on here for a while.

The # piece of advice is to make sure you're not in ketosis.  You need to add carbs back into your food plan...Just make sure they're healthy carbs (whole wheat, multi-grain, etc...not just sugar carbs).  This is important for your baby's brain development.

Be sure your dr is monitoring your labs closely.  The baby will get what he/she needs...but if there's a deficiency...you will be the one deficient.  The baby will leach it all from your body.

I am sure at this point post WLS that you're not able to eat a tremendous amount, so try to include several small meals a day to get down the calories/protein/carbs that you need.  Some people vary on whether protein drinks are OK - usually do the the artificial sweeteners in them.  If you drink protein drinks, that's something you will have to research and determine what's best for you and your baby.

Otherwise...enjoy your pregnancy...congratulations...and don't be a stranger.  The women here are full of excellent advice and can answer almost any question you'd have, no matter how 'strange' you may think it is.  I hope the remainder of your pregnancy is happy and healthy.

Is this your first baby?

Hey ladies! Thank you for the advice. This is my first!!! I have PCOS, tried for 5 years, did 2 summers of IUI's.....lost 80 pounds and got pregnant naturally. So I am trying to be excited but still very reserved. I am actually able to eat anything but just small amounts. I am struggling with naseau right now, so it is difficult to get in enough food. This morning I decided to try Carnation Instant Breakfast NSA. Thanks again and I am still open to any advice!

Appointment went great. Dr is concerned about my 800 calories a day and told me to start drinking milkshakes......so we will see. She said she would follow me more close than normal and do more body scans on baby to make sure it is growing. So all is well, beautiful embryo with a heartbeat. Thanks for all and any advice to come.
