I was told by my surgeon to expect smaller babies. I got pregnant with Joshua at about 7 months out and he was born at 5lbs 12 oz.. I was still so early in the process that I lost 25 lbs during the first two trimesters and gained back 8 of that in the third. I was almos 4 years out when I got pregnant this time and had already experienced some regain. I have been losing weight this time too. It's weird, but the nurseat the OB's office said he's probably just kicking my metabolism up a notch. The first few months it was the morning sickness, but that went away at about 16 weeks. I'm expanding, and the baby is right on target in his growth, but I still haven't gained any weight.
I'm curious to see how big he will be at birth. Joshua was small but very healthy, and he is now a very tall 3year old.
Good luck in your pregnancy and all of your wls journey.

I have not had WLS yet and here is my birth weight info:

I only gained 2 lbs total while I was pregnant and my baby was a perfect 7lbs 11 oz.  I had gained about 10lbs before I was diagnosed w/ gd and put on insulin.  In the first week after starting the insulin I lost 8 lbs!!  I was nervous, but my dr was proud of me.  But in the end I was only 2 lbs up from my pre pregnancy weight and I had a totally healthy baby!!

To be honest, I have no idea what determines birth weight.  I was told time and time again that b/c of the gd I would have a big baby.  2 wks before my scheduled c-section the dr measured my baby at 9 lbs and I had 3 wks until my due date.  I was always being watched w/ 2 u/s a wk and still he was measuring over 9 lbs.  I didn't even take clothes smaller than 3 mos to the hospital w/ me.

I'm glad that I found this board, b/c I want to have another baby post op, but am nervous about the health risks.  I'll be coming in and out to read updates.

Good Luck everyone!!

I will say NO.  LOL!  My first pregnancy I was 4 months post-op and he ended up being 10.5 lbs.  I just delivered twin girls at 35 weeks and they were 7.2 lbs and 8.6 lbs.  I bake em big!!  I didn't have GD with either of the pregnancies!

Good luck.

I have no idea how WLS affects the size of baby (i doubt it does, probably more genetics then anything else.) but in my case everyone thought I would have a large baby because my husband is so tall and he is not fat but his bones are like giant. He has a large frame, but so far I've gained 20lbs and the sonograms I've had say she is under the average weight ...so I guess we'll see how big she is when she's born but it doesn't look like I'm having a giant baby like everyone thought.
