Hi All,

So, I have noticed that, since being pregnant, my tolerance for sugar has gone WAY down. My symptoms for dumping syndrom are still really mild. I just get really hot and tired. But I was just wondering if anyone else noticed theirs getting worse too. I am wondering if it's a sign that I may have a higher risk for gestational diabetes.

DEFINATELY!  I have 2 post-op babies.  My 2 1/2 year old and a 5 month old.  Both pregnancies my sugar tolerance was VERY low!  I could only tolerate about 10 - 15 grams of sugar.  Normally pre-pregnant after RNY, I could eat just about anything.  When I was pregnant, I couldn't hardly tolerate anything.  I would feel VERY nausious, warm, sick feeling for anywhere from 1/2 hr to 1 1/2 hrs depending on what I ate.  I did find that after the pregnancy, the tolerance is better (I don't know if that is good or bad :) ) , but I still to this day, I can't eat the amount of sugar that I could eat before I had the 2 pregnancies, so THAT is a good thing!!!!

I don't necessarily think it is a sign  of GD as my sugars when monitored instead of the sugar drink were always in the 60's.

My experience is just the opposite- I can tolerate more sugar now than before! I have to be careful, or I'll find myself eating way too much. I don't think it has anything to do with risk of diabetes later on or not- I think it's just how our bodies react.

My tolerances went way down as well. I did develop gestation diabetes, but I have battled diabetes with my weight for years. I don't think it is an indication that you will have it for sure.

I don't think it's a sign of GD.  I had both ends during pregnancy.  I'm quite sugar intolerant anyway averaging 10g max.  Anyway with my 1st pregnancy I had an increased tolerance up to about 15g and with my 2nd pregnancy I had reduced tolerance down to about 7-8g.  Unfortunately my dumping is more severe than that.

Good luck!  OH...and when it comes time for your GD testing...see if your doc is willig to do a fasting & 1 hr post prandial...it's what my OB did for both of my pregnancies.

 YES!

Before pregnancy and post surgery I could eat anything and now I am intolerant of so so many things, especially sugar to the point where I become physically ill from it... including but not limited to being overheated and tired feeling...

I am also nauseous all the time.

I had no idea this would be so nauseating...  mean I had an idea... but didn't understand. I don't think that I can eat any sugar at all...

How did everything turn out for you? Did you eventually stop feeling this way? How long did it take? Did you get gestational diabeties?

Any info would help!
