hello everyone!... i cant believe im 30 weeks already.. seems like its going by so fast.. anyway... i had an ultrasound on wednesday... baby is 3 lbs, head down.. and starting to make her way down... cervix is still holding strong... heart beat was strong... i asked the dr about the contractions ive been having every so often she said as long as there are not more then 4 in an hour just to wait it out..... i had the glucola drink today.. everything was fine and no dump which kind of suprised me.. so all in all everything looked good!..

quick question... jayson will be about 17-18 months when shes born.. i try to explain to him about his sister.. and show him babies.. he really could care less LOL.. any ideas how i can help him get used to the idea that there will be a baby here soon?

I'm glad things are staying strong in your portable oven.  It is hard to believe that you're already 30 weeks!

No clue re Jayson and getting him to comprehend that he'll have a sister...but I'm sure he'll love having a baby around.  When my son was about his age, a friend had a baby and we went over to see her baby...and my son just kept saying 'baby' and wanting to touch him (ie, gouge his eyes).  It was funny seeing him call a newborn a baby as if he were no longer a baby himself.

I can't believe you're 30 weeks either.  It's flying by!  :)

Only advice I got.. it might have come from here.. was to not be holding the baby whey Jayson first meets her.   That way he isn't immediately overwhelmed with the feeling that mommy has found someone else to love.   I thought that made a lot of sense.

Glad to hear everything is going well!

As for Jayson, this might sound weird, but I would get him a baby of his own.  One that he can hold and you can teach him to pat gently, not poke eyes....or pull ears...just something that will teach him how to be careful with a baby.

My sister did this with her son when she found out she was having a baby and it worked out great for them!

I cant believe it either!! Time is going fast!! With our second one the big thing that helped with adjustment is making sure to still take the time out for our older son. So my husband would spend time with my oldest son while I had baby then we would switch off. He still had individul time with us then and was not so jealous!! It worked. Plus he was able to sit with us and "hold" the baby too.

Glad things are going well. Some things that helped transition Emma were...

The first time she met Micah we were not holding him. And we instructed every one that comes to visit to pay attention to her first and have her introduce the baby to them...she is proud that way. We also had a little gift exchange, something from baby to her and her to him. And the baby thing really does help a lot. Get him a doll. Emma has one that drinks a bottle and giggle and sleeps. She feeds the baby when I do, and also I gave her a diaper to try to change 'her' baby as well. It also helps with teaching to be gentle. She also has a kid stroller to push her baby when we go for walks and I am pushing micah. We also switch off and give a lot of one on one time. And if baby is fussy and Emma seems jealous I will let him fuss a bit to appease her. If she is happy I will have an easier time tending to him. Also, I read about a toddler bed and we are trying it. I really wanted her in a toddler bed before baby, but she was going to be 21 months old and I wasn't sure she would be ready. The book said to wait until baby is 4 months old for a couple of reasons. One baby is in a routine and disruptions won't be as bad if toddler gets up. By then the jealousy by toddler should fizzle too. If you put them in a toddler bed right before baby is born and they are not ready then they might regress to getting out of bed and that would be hard with a newborn not on a schedule.

To be honest having 2 so close in age has been a huge/hard adjustment. Be prepared for your world to change...lol The biggest is sleep. Before with one if I was tired I napped when she did. That is impossible now. He is awake until 2am and she is up at 7am...and with a feeding or two in between you don't get any sleep. Simple things like running into a grocery store takes forever. Wake up...feed...change...pack bag...feed again...sometimes takes me 2+hours to get all of us out of the house. Oh, and try bf in public with a toddler running around...lol

I don't mean to scare you. But it is hard. I am getting into a routine though...it has been 2 months to get more comfortable going out. Good luck!! Shari
