Sleep question
I starting having problems sleeping a while back, then they went away.
Until now... I am a stomach sleeper, always have been. It's at that point where it hurts to sleep on my stomach. When I sleep on my sides my hips and back KILL me in the morning. I have always carried my weight on my bottom half, and this pregnancy is no different.
The real thing I'm worried about is- I have never been know to sleep on my back. The only time I was forced to was up until about a week post op with my GBS. Now I find myself waking up on my back every morning. I roll over and she starts moving as soon as I do. Everything I read says it could be harmful to sleep on your back, however I don't know I'm doing it.
Should I be worried about this?
Thanks
Karen

I, like you, have always been a stomach sleeper. I was forced to sleep on my back after my RNY and back surgery. I actually slept on my stomach through-out my entire pregnancy, I didn't show much. Well, my DH kept waking me up to tell me to roll over so I didn't smash Libby. So, at a few of my doctors appts we asked about sleep positions. My OB told me that Libby will let me know if she isn't comfortable with the way I was sleeping. There were times I would wake up on my back and was told that was bad because it could cut off oxygen to the baby. I told this to my OB and he said, yes that is true, but your baby will let you know if you need to change positions. So, if you feel her kicking the crap out of you then you know to change positions so she is more comfortable.

I bought a couple body pillows when I was pregnant (pre op) and i used them to give my brain and body the illusion of sleeping on my stomach. I would tale the pillows and lay on mu freont of my hip, and stack them in from of my belly and lean into them.
I know it sounds crazy, but it actually worked and I would stay in the same position all night ****il I had to wake up every couple hours to use the bathroom, lol)

I stomach sleep also. I ended on my back many times. Doc said nothing to worry about. Not that just falling asleep and doing it on purpose was good but that you cant control what you do when you sleep. He said if you wake up on your back then do this simple thing.....roll to your side and go back to sleep. He always liked to make jokes though. I still ended up on my back anyway and my baby girl is just awesome!!

I asked the Dr today too because I often go to my back at night. Mostly because I have back issues and that feels better. THe body pillow is a godsend and I usually prop that up infront of me and then either lean against hubby or put another pillow behind my back to keep me in that position.
Oh and he said the same thing as the PP - just roll over and go back to sleep. And the US tech told me that the baby is so cushioned that if I am doing something that is squishing it or making it uncomfortable I am going to be let know by a good swift kick!
