Soooooooo another question...
Yes, you will find I am full of them! First off, thank you so, so, so, much for the support yesterday! I dont think I could have made it thru the day mentally. You all were a big help. My question now is, are any of you over 35 and pregnant? I was wondering if the whole statistic thing of over 35 is also high risk nowadays. It seems I know more and more women over 35 who are having babies.
I am also writing down a detailed list to take to my doc with all the suggestions, so any more are appreciated.
Have a blessed day!

First, congratulations!
I am over 35 and I'm probably the oldest. I had my first child when I was 45. I'm now 46 and 7 1/2 weeks pregnant--I'll be 47 when this baby is born.
Women 35 and older are considered to be of Advanced Maternal Age (AMA) and high risk. The main risks for an older mom are a higher risk of miscarriage, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and premature delivery, as well as age-related birth defects. That being said, I experienced none of these and my son is a perfect and healthy 16-month-old.
It's more and more common to be an older mom these days, so there are lots of books on being 35 or older and pregnant. I read a couple of those as well as the usual recommended books.

I am! 38 and 7 weeks pregnant with my first (I have a nearly 6 YO son I adopted). I will be 39 when this baby is born!
When I told my OB I wanted to have a baby he was not so concerned about my gastric bypass as he was my age. He has handled many gastric bypass patients. He suggested getting pregnant as quickly as possible becasue the chances of problems rise as 40 approaches.
My first prenatal appointment is not until 1/26 which has me on edge having to wait that long. At that point I will be 10 weeks! I am at a loss as to what to even ask the OB at this point. I am still on the fence about amnio. I am just gonna take this one day at a time and start a list!
Oh we will have to keep in touch! I think Im a little over 4 weeks, wont know til Tuesday. I will be 39 too when this baby is born! We will see how worried my doc is, the thing is I am only 6 months out from surgery. I am writing down tons of questions that I have gotten mainly from here. One day at a time is all we can do huh? Lets talk!
Yep! I have a 15 year old, and now have a 2 1/2 year old and a 5 month old. The 2 1/2 year old and the 5 month old are both post op babies! I was 38 when I had the 2 year old and 40 when I had the 5 month old. The only thing I did different with them that I didn't do with the 15 year old (other than I didn't do the sugar drink because of the RNY), because of my being over 35, was I had to come in for 2X a week non-stress tests to make sure the baby was o.k. from week 32 on. Actually, with my 2 year old, I came in from week 36 on. With my 5 month old, I came in from week 32 on.
I wasn't considered high risk at all! I am definately further out thought than you are. I had my RNY in 2004. I only gained 14 pounds with my 2 year old, and 2 pounds total with my 5 month old!
Some docs you will find will want to run extra labs to keep track of things, and maybe a few extra ultrasounds (but that can be good!)
