Sterilized against her will
She's right, she probably won't win much sympathy due to the fact that she's on b.s. (as we say here) and that there are several fathers and her mother has custody of the 3. But to me, strip that all away and whether she's the best or worst mother in the world, unless there was a court order or consent, to sterilize a woman w/o it is not only unethical, but it should be criminal IMO.
Disgusting behaviour on the doctors'/nurses'/hospital's part, and despite the fact she'll no doubt squander the money, I hope she gets a huge settlement!

I agree 100% with you. It is no one else's decision if she was to have more children or not. Obviously she was taking a step by wanting to get the IUD. Those doctors crossed the line, and I think she wont have to be on foodstamps etc much longer, because she has grounds for a MAJOR lawsuit.
Super proud mommy to Dylan, Owen and Sophia Brianne!
I'm sure there's much more to this story than meets the eye. Why did she bring an IUD to her delivery? That's REALLY bizarre. I thought it was placed at the doctor's office post partum. Personally, I think she's full of it. The hospital would not blatantly put themselves at risk to sterilize someone without their consent....even if they did think she needed it.
Something seems fishy.
An IUD at delivery? I would guess there's more to this story than what's being said here. This is only one side of the story since the hospital would not comment.
However, if it's true, despite how I feel about her personally, her rights were violated and she should win the lawsuit.
If you happen to hear more, please share?

Funny, I said something about this story tonight when my DH, brother and I were discussing people who mooch off the system. I thought it was a bit bizarre that someone would get an IUD at delivery. It is standard to wait 6 weeks... same goes for taking any pills. I think this lady is another one that just wants money, pretty evident with her CVS lawsuit. Unfortunately, I don't agree with the fact that she started having kids at 14 and lives off our tax dollars but it was definitely wrong to have done that without consent, if it was truly without consent.

I'm a case worker for Child Welfare. I would almost put money on it that there is more to this story than we know now. Yes, it was a violation of her rights and therefore wrong IF it is true... but it is probably better for her current children and situation that she won't be having any more. I just had to comment because 90% of my clients have several children and are abusing the system and it is very hard to see and justify sometimes.
This whole story seems crazy, there is NO way they would put in an IUD right after a c-section. They told me I could not have an IUD because of a septum I had removed over a year before because scar tissue can be thin and the IUD could easily puncture it, so I would think they would not put one in if you have a newly opened wound in your uterus for fear that it would interfere with healing or puncture new sutures. And why the hell did she BRING IT WITH HER? LOL I have never heard of such a thing.
When they did my tubal they asked me FOUR times before they did it, once before we started, once during the actual delivery, once right after I got to see the baby and again right before she got to the tubal. I also had to sign a consent form at my doctors office and one in the delivery room before they gave me my spinal.
Seems to me that the doctors didn't follow procedure and for that there should be some ramifications, but something does not sit right with this chicks story. And she sued CVS because they sold her expired spermicide? Can you imagine being the kid that was conceived during that debacle? It's ok honey, your mom really didn't want you and there is a law suit to prove it, but you are still special and thats why you live with your grandma LOL
