Good Morning, Introduction and a Few Questions

Good morning all-  I've been lurking for a bit and thought I would introduce myself and see if I could get some words of wisdom from those of you that have been in my shoes!

I am 6 years out from RNY and 14 weeks pregnant with twins.  Just when I was recovering from the shock of being pregnant, we found out we were having twins!  I'm still trying to get my arms wrapped around the idea of TWO.  I turned 40 in June and my only child is a 6ft 2in 275pound Sr in High School.  In fact, the day we found out we were having twins, I went to pick up his Senior pictures. I will be 8 months pregnant at his graduation...go ahead and laugh a little at this, everyone else does!

I've been doing some searching through recent posts and found answers to some of my questions, but I have a few more.  Any insight would be much appreciated!

1)  Glucose Test-  I dump as easily today as I did as a recent post-op, so the idea of having to drink that sugar crap is a bit overwhelming.  Did you ladies do something else to test for diabetes- perhaps fasting test or something?  Or did you just gut it out?

2) Twins when over 35-  anyone else in this boat?  Were you exhausted the whole time, or did things get better in the second tri-mester?  I'm so tired I can barely see strait. Did you have to do bed rest?  How many weeks did you make it to?

I'm sure I'll have more- but that's it for now.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you in the next several weeks. Especially as I'm sure I'll need to be walked off the ledge for gaining weight... only a pound thus far, but I'm having to remind myself to get away from the "least calories as possible" mindset I've had for 6 years!!!

Michelle,
I totally relate on the twin thing! I also got a shock at my first visit when we found out we are also expecting twins! I'm at nearly 17 weeks now, and I did notice a bit more energy after week thirteen, which has been nice. I've also been able to tolerate more food than before- I was 13 months out when I got pregnant, so not quite as far out as you. I am also still in my 20's until May (I don't like to say that I am nearing 30 in 5 short months) so I can't relate to the older pregnancy, but there are a lot of others who are. I'm banking on havign a rather healthy pregnancy. I know it is possible. So far I have not had any problems. I work full time and attend grad school too. Good luck with the twins- keep in touch!

I just wanted to say welcome.  I'm 22 weeks pregnant and 36 yrs old.  I have a 19 yr old daughter so I can relate.  People think I'm crazy for getting pregnant and starting all over again.

For the diabetes testing I did fasting then blood work. I refused the sugar drink and my doctor was fine with that. Heck I noticed a tired difference from my first pregnancy 16 years ago. I have a 16,11 and now a 6 week old. I get the age difference thing all the time. Its funny. I feel I am more patient now thenback then. I am still tired but its all worth it. Cant help you with the twin thing though but good luck!! :)

I'm with ya on the twins... I almost died! I was thinking how am I gonna handle another ONE... now it's TWO...lol  For the glucose test I had to fast blood work and then ate breakfast another day and did blood work 2 hrs later. There was NO WAY I was gonna drink that stuff...lol  But I wanted to say Congrats. At first i was shocked just like you.... Now I am scared and excited at the same time...lol

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the help.  I'll be sure to avoid the glucose gunk and just do a fasting lab.

Wow! Hi there Michelle... I remember you from another OH board a few years ago with Roxxi, Steve, Tee, etc... Anyhow, CONGRATS to you darlin'!!! I'm very happy for you....

I had a little guy myself in December of 2008... I did the glucose testing but wish I hadn't went through with it because I felt like I was going to DIE..... Ugh!! If I were to have any more kiddos, I would not go through that whole ordeal again... I would just make sure your OB is aware of the surgery type you had and find a way around that...

I can't help on the twins issue but I know I was very exhausted in the 1st trimester... I would come home from work and crash in the recliner after work for 2-3 hours then go to bed early and do it all over again the next day....  I was 35 when I had my 1st and only baby and I worried about things needlessly... I was fine & so was my son...

My only suggestion is to eat regularly and take your vitamins.... I was 4 years out when Zander was born and had lots of trouble gaining weight... I lost 20lbs while pregnant with him but I never got to "goal" either before his conception.... I guess it all depends on the person really.... Anyhow, wanted to wish you LOTS of luck Michelle... That is so exciting!!!
