Is something wrong with me?

I have my glucose test in a few days. I googled gestational diabetes symptoms and it seems like there aren't many noticable symptoms... which seems odd because a diabetic does have noticable symptoms if they have a sugar spike or their sugar drops dramatically.

Last night I chugged an individual serving of OJ on an empty stomach... I guess about 16oz. I felt icky afterward. Sort of weak and fatigued. Then today I had cereal for breakfast... generic cocoa pebbles (and yes I realize this isn't a wise food choice, but oh well... they were in the cabinet). I felt really sleepy afterward. I slept from 9:00 until 2:30. Extremely rare for me. I like taking a nap as much as the next pregnant chick, but never have I had a full nights  sleep then took a 5 hour nap... not even when I was in my prime sleepy pregnancy weeks. Here it is 4:00... I managed to eat another bowl of cereal and clean up the kitchen. Now I feel like I need a nap again. I could totally curl up and watch a movie. I'm so sleepy that I'm foregoing SHOPPING with my Christmas money and giftcards just to nap.

What's wrong with me? I'm lapband post op so it's not dumping (not that I'm familiar with exactly what dumping is... all I know is you eat a little too much sugar then feel nauseous and/or get super sleepy). I'm thinking either my thyroid or could it possibly be gestational diabetes? Or am I just over-reacting over nothing?

i had dumping similar to what you have described.  at first it was anything over 3g of sugar, now that i am almost a year out i can pretty have whatever sugar i want, although.....i keep an eye on it.  If i do more than 30g of sugar...im out like a light.  or at least i wanna be.

If your test is in a few days I wouldn't worry about it.  Just make less sugary choices in the next few days.  If you're really worried about it, call your doctor and ask if you should be concerned.

I feel that way with dumping sometimes also. I also get sleepy like that when my iron or b is low. I would have them check that also.

You are just a few days ahead of me...I had to skip the glucose test due to my gastric, it was the decision between me and the dr that I felt was best for me.  I do test my sugar daily and also see the dr routinely just for the sugar.  My reason for telling you all this is about two weeks ago I got extremly sick and couldn't keep my sugar up, no matter what I ate.  And had what seems like similar to your napping symptoms.  After a couple days, life went back to normal.  When I went back to the dr. she indicated that when the placenta is growing in spurts around this time, it often takes more sugar than I have therefore making me feel ill for a couple days.  Not sure if this could be what is happening with you...but it's a thought.

Good luck on the test, hope all goes well....Stacey

Hi there!!! So sorry you are feeling bad. I too am banded but don't know anything about dumping. I am the wife of a type 1 diabetic. My husband has an insulin pump, which is amazing. Do you know anyone with a tester? I would suggest a simple BGC test just for giggles. To see what your bs is when you are feeling that way. There are the normal symptoms a diabetic has. However, my husband is a bit of an odd case. He would function "well" (as well as one can) with a bs level of 800...ish. I know i know, I always get the "are you freaking kidding me?" look when I say this to people. A bs level this high generally means your body is in diabetic ketoacidosis, but not with my husband. A blood glucose of 500 was normal for him. He did however smell very sick sweet and I mean sick. This is another issue with high bs. Now that he is on the pump he is regulated and I can definitely tell if he is too high or too low. Long story short...this is an illness that requires attention. One can never be too certain. It is better to be safe than sorry :-). Not sure my rambling has offered any insight. Keep us posted on what you find out. I do know my doc will let me walk in at any time to weigh, test pulse, test bp or to do a quick blood glucose test. They are all quick and simple. Good luck missy and let us know what comes of this.

For most of my pregnancy, I felt like I needed a nap after every physical activity; eating, walking up the stairs, driving to work...
