Has anyone had a CVS?
I tried to have one. They wound up not being able to get a sample because of the location/position of my placenta. The OB there that day only did them vaginally; otherwise, I could have opted for the abdominal.
It was a bit uncomfortable, but not too bad. I wound up having an amnio done at 18 weeks....that was much less uncomfortable, but over with very quickly.

Hi - I just turned 40 & so I had one at 12 wks / 2 days...and I can tell you - its not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be...AT ALL! I joined a baby board (babycenter.com) to find out what to expect - and there are CVS and AMNIO threads dedicated to both tests, but here is my quick rundown:
I was scheduled for a 10:30am CVS test at the St Barnabas' Division of Fetal Medicine. Showed up with 24oz of liquid (aka: medium DD decaf SF vanilla iced coffee) in my tummy. First the u/s tech checked me out - she showed me that the baby was wiggling and waving and well, fidgeting all over the place. She gave me TONS of 3-D pics to take home as souvenirs, which was a super cool bonus...cuz if you don't know - going to have 3-D pics taken on it's own can run up a pretty penny. . Then the OB Pernitologist came in. He gave me a quick once over & reviewed all the u/s and decided the best way to perform the procedure was abdominally (since the baby was laying towards my back). He promised me it would be quick (less then 10 sec) and it wouldn't hurt. I told him "HA! I have no tolerance for pain" and he said "we'll see". So, first he rubbed iodine on my tummy, then he placed his thumb where the needle would be inserted. Then he said, "ok, get ready to count to 10"....which I did.
One one-thousand, Two one-thousand, and by the time I got to Eight one-thousand he was done...and to tell you the truth - it didn't hurt!
Now the wait began....I was told it could take up to 7-10 days to get the results if everything is genetically ok, and also if it's a boy or girl. Finally on the 8th day (which seemed like FOREVER) I got the results & all was ok - and confirmation that I was having a girl.
Seriously, it really, really did NOT hurt. I was told that I should take the day off & will need someone to drive me home & could expect slight cramping & possible spotting over the next few days. I didn't experience any of that...in fact - at 3pm that afternoon I was shopping with hubby since we both took the day off!
PS - I have also had the quad screen blood test at 16 weeks which was necessary to determine if the baby had spina bifida (which a week later I got the results that all was ok).
