So my BF brought to my attention today that he doesnt want our baby to have any vaccines until it is 2 yrs old and talking.  I havent really thought alot into this because I have never needed to but I was curious as to how many of you have looked into the vaccines out there and what your opinions  are on waiting until the childs brain is more developed to force more vaccines than on an infant.

I will do my research of course, but the BF is standing firm on this.  I am just curious of all your opinions!

Thanks!

Hi,

I have 4 children and 1 on the way.  Each of them has received their vaccines on the recommended schedule.  These diseases have been eradicated because of the vaccines provided.  If your BF is basing his argument on the 'research' that there is a link to vaccinations and Autism... the research was found to be forged.  The doctor that was doing the research study falsified his findings so that he could be "known" for something.  http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2009/02/andrew-wakefield-exposed -as-fraud.html

Here is one article... if you google Andrew Wakefield... you will find numerous others.

Anyway, my personal belief is that for the safety of your child, other children in the community, and for the sake of keeping these diseases out of our lives... children should be vaccinated on the recommended schedule (barring any medical purposes which would injure them further - ie. a weakened immune system or some other disease)

See?  He WAS known for something --

First, he was known for the link.
Now he's known for a medical fraud.
And he may be known for putting thousands, if not millions of children in danger.

What a legacy!

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, some folks continue to believe that vaccines cause autism. Not vaccinating your child at all until age 2 is very dangerous, primarily because other people are making similar choices and old diseases have already started to make a comeback. It's so easy for all of to forget how many children actually DIED of things that are now considered very rare.
Many pediatricians offer an alternative vaccine schedule where the vaccines are given slower/more spaced out and even some of the anti-vaccine organizations seem to be OK with doing that, so maybe you cold convince your boyfriend that the slower schedule would be a good option.

I have a son.

He has been vaccinated, even with the H1N1 "experimental" vaccine on time except for his 18 month -- and only because every time I've scheduled it, he's had a temp!  (which is extrodinary because my kids have never even been on an antibiotic in their entire lives..  just really rotten bad timing).

As soon as I can get him shot for his 18 months, he will be.

I originally was on the same page as your b/f. In doing a lot of research we decided to do a very delayed vaccine schedule and found a doctor that was able to work with us. Most doctors will not be happy about no vaccines until your child is 2... you will need to find a 'vaccine friendly' doctor. I would highly suggest reading The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears. It gives a lot of info and isn't just one sided.
http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook/

The website has a list by state of vaccine friendly doctors and you can also find an alternate vaccine schedule as well.

Good Luck!

Vaccination is so important, not only for your child but for children who come in contact with them. Also if you decide on this you cannot send your child to daycare or any other group activities that require immunizations. I work for Child Protective Services, we have a mother who is behind on her child's vaccinations (not because of anything but laziness) but we substantiated medical neglect against her. In my opinion the risks of your child having complications from an illness is far greater than the vaccine itself. Just a thought, possibly check your state law because there may be consequences for not getting them at all.

**There are some people who decide on a delayed schedule and get vaccines monthly rather than every two months all at once.

thanks everyone for your comments.  I am so confused!!  I am totally ok with the baby haveing vaccines...I think there are some out there that are not needed...(like chicken pox for example) I dont agree that they all need to be omitted until the child is two.  I just need to find a way to express this to my BF so that he will not be upset either.  He has rights when it comes to this child too and if that is one of his fears, i have to respect that.

I realize that if we dont do vaccines the child cant go to day care of whatever, im prepared for that...i didnt want my child being cared for by someone else anyway. (no offense to those working moms out there!! yall are super, idk how you do it!)  I explained this to him, and he was like ok whatever.

I think the delayed option is a nice middle ground that he may be willing to accept.  I havent really discussed it with him again as it is the holidays so....we have 6 months to talk it over...i just wanted the input of you ladies first.

Thanks again!

Assuming he is afraid of Autism... when they thought there might be a correlation... Japan stopped vaccinating and like the rest of the world Autism went through the roof.

The only thing proven about Austism is that it is not caused by vaccines.

we do vaccinate but not on the regular schedule.  I don't like so many shots at once.  so we delay getting more than one at a time.

jordan had all of his on schedule and in the normal manner.  he had the varicella vax and promptly (3 weeks later) had them.  we assume he picked it up prior to getting the vax.

Kaida didn't get the varicella vax and has yet to have the pox so since she was exposed to jordan having them I'm just letting that one go.

she had her MMR at 2.5 years old.

I'll do the same  thing with Luken.  he WILL get it but not til he is over 2.  the rest he will get as well just on a slower schedule.

we did get the regular flu shot but they never made the H1N1 available at our docs office til after I had the baby.  we may not get it now.  we'll see. Jordan was "diagnosed" (I say it that way because they only tested for Flu A, which I understand because of the cost of the H1N1 testing) with H1N1 back in October and we all took our Tamiflu.

I did get the Tdap while in the hospital just in case.

so I'm not anti vaccine but I am all for choosing to go slower with them if you want.
