This is way off topic but I wanted to ask since it is women on this board :)

We are looking at buying a new front loading washer and dryer. We are looking at the LG brand that has wash/steam as they have good consumer reports. I wanted to see what you all have and if you like/don't like it.

Thanks for any information.

I have the Whirlpool Duet and love them.  No steam, though...Natalie

My parents have them and they often say they would never buy them again.  They do a great job but my parents were never told that the washer needs to be cleaned frequently otherwise it gets a musty smell.  They bought theirs like 4 years ago, so things might have changed since then.  I would just ask a sales rep about the upkeep.

The smell is an issue if you keep the washer closed up especially.  I'm really cautious to never close it when it's not in use.  I just keep the door cracked.  Also, Tide and some other companies recently came out with cleaners for the front load.  You just put the cleaner in and run an empty cycle and it does it's work.

I have Bosch front-loaders, they don't have steam though. I've been very happy with them, although I do wish the washer had the option to add MORE water to a wash the way some of them do. Mine automatically adjusts the amount of water to the weight of the load and there's no way to change it.
I do think it's important with front loaders to let the washer dry out. I usually leave the door of mine wide open for a few hours after I'm done with it to be sure it gets dry. There are more nooks and crannies in a front loader where water can pool and get slimy.
