VITAMINS AND WEIGHT LOSS
What do you all take for your vitamins needs? I am 11 weeks along and I am taking my bariatric advantage vitamins and my prenatal vitamins, but how much of this do we really absorb and how much would the baby get? Just sooo confused between ob, gastric doc and nutritionist who also told me i need to take in like 1400 cal a day which I have no idea how I can do since they don't want me to lose more weight since i am not a year out. I'm really worried about vitamin content any advice is greatly appreciated. I have lost about 140lbs and near goal weight but terrified about gaining weight, opening pandoras box, you know.
Thanks!
Thanks!
You need two multis -- whether it's 2 BA's, 2 prenates (which I would NOT do, given the amount of iron in them if you ever wanna poo again), or one of each -- but 2 a day. Remember, we malabsorb at least 1/2 of our supplements, especially since you are so early out.
You need at LEAST 800mcg of folate. I'd say more. I'd go with closer to 1mg or 1.2mg.
You need at LEAST 500-1000mcg of B12 daily.
You need to take iron.
You need at LEAST 1500mg of calcium CITRATE per day. I'd say closer to 2000mg. Remember, you're building a baby skeleton in there. It requires calcium.
You need D. Make sure your calcium has D. You might need extra.
You need a b-complex. If you start puking, you'll need extra B1.
And on top of it, you need, need, NEED blood draws every 8 weeks to check your iron (ferritin, blood serum iron, hct, hgb), your b's (b1, b12, folate), and your calcium/D levels (0,25(OH)D, and pth) and plan to supplement from there.
