Ok so now I am bummed out BIG TIME
Went for my dr's appointment today only to come out feeling bummed. Did the pee in the cup (trace of protien in my urine) they said no worries to that, BP was ok I guess they never said anything, gained 5lbs this month, well maybe this week due to the amount of chocolate I have consumed..... and that is it. Well I did mention to him that I feel a slight bump under my apron just at the pelvic ridge that was never there before, he felt me and said he couldn't feel anything. So now I believe I am imagining things. That was it!!! He didn't even try the doppler to see if he could hear a hb. I am bummed out. He wants me to go for an u/s next week to see if I am carring one or more, so I came home booked the appointment, only to find out that since it is a dating u/s as they call it at the imaging clinic (duh we know the dates already), that I have to go alone Hubby is not allowed in and I won't be told anything or able to see anything. Now since I have turned down all the other testings I won't get an u/s again until I am around 19 weeks. I can call my dr after 2 business days to find out the results of the u/s next week, but that will be after4 days of stewing somemore.... I am ever so anxious duee to the blighted ovum back in May that I WANT answers and pictures (we were going to announce with copies of the U/S, should I bring Banana Bread in for the tech and maybe they will disclose something good to me? Other than that I am Pregnant Today and hopefully will remain so until July. No other complaints out of the ordinary other that constipation and tender boobies...LOL and occassional nausea, MS has stayed at bay so far.....Lucky me I guess!!!
I don't understand why they wouldn't let you see the screen, I know the techs can't say much but they can tell you some stuff and if it is twins. Does your oc think you may be carrying more then 1?? As far as the doppler I know my doc wouldn't even try till I was 11weeks. Sorry for such a crappy appointment.

Call around other imaging clinics. I found that the info allowed to be provided to you differed from one lab to another. Usually, they will do the exam without your spouse in the room and then the last 5 minutes bring your spouse in to let him get a glimpse and hear the HB.
Also, the reason your dr probably didnt even try to get a hb is because it's still quite early for one of those dopplers to pick it up and if he couldn't locate the tiny little heart with it, it would just add stress to your life. I didn't get to hear my LO's HB until i was about 16weeks at the OB's. I heard it at 7weeks at the imaging clinic.

Don't be so bummed out. Some doctors and hospitals are like that and mine is a little better only since I am at a High Risk clinic they have to do more ultrasounds than normal. Anyway, I think things are going okay for them not to be concerned enough to do an US right away. Don't worry, enjoy this baking period as much as you can. We are at 20 weeks and still don't know the sex. We will find out in two more weeks which is crazy waiting. Some people know way ahead of this and I've had an ultrasound almost every wee****il week 18 now they are listening to the HB and letting me wait for the anatomy ultrasound. Keep us posted
336lbs 6/19/06 - 198 lbs - 6/19/10 138 lbs gone forever!!!

well that just stinks! I am with the PP call around to other places and see if you can get the appt there. I went to the normal ultrasound place at the hospital - the same place that does my thyroid ultrasound followups.
Hubby went with me to mine and not only did we get to watch but she gave me pics - he never had to leave me, just had to stand by my feet so he was out of the way.
If you do stick with the office just ask lots of questions of the tech and see if that works. I know they wouldn't tell me anything officially until the radiologist reviewed them and my OB then called but she confirmed my date, told us the baby's heartrate and said that all looked good to her. OF course "off the record"
Good luck!

I can't imagine all that worry! I chose the practice I did because they do an ultrasound at EVERY appointment- each room has a machine in it. It's a large practice, and I love my OB. Even with the slightest problem they do an ultrasound. It's so reassuring. I am such a worry wart and I even worry anyway between appointments. I would demand to know that at least they see the heartbeat. I don't think that is too much to ask for. Let the tech know before he or she gets started that you had a blighted ovum recently and are really worried about that again, and if they could at least let you know that the heart is beating or let you hear it, it would really help you and your hubby. It can't hurt!! Good luck!

I am sorry you are so bummed. Like the other ladies said maybe you can reason with the tech to give you a peak at baby bean. Besides that I have no advice because I never had a dating u/s (we just went by my last period) so my first was at 12 weeks (but my first OB appt was at 8 weeks).
As for the doppler, my OB didn't try for the first time until I was 12 weeks and even then it took her a minute to find it (but my baby likes to hide... sometimes behind my pelvis, now behind my belly button, who knows where next).

Those are absolutely STUPID rules and I would also look for another imaging place. Now, I understand they can't give you tons of detail because the radiologist has to read the scan...but there is NO reason why they can't tell you they see 1, 2, or 3 good strong heartbeats!!! If you decide to stay with this imaging place, before they even start the ultrasound I would explain to the tech your situation and explain to her that you know she cannot give you exact details, but then ask her to at least give you a thumbs up if baby is okay so that you can have a little peace of mind. Hopefully, you will get a sympathetic tech and he/she would be willing to do that for you! Having worked in many, many medical facilities, I know that a lot of places train the schedulers and receptionists to be watch dogs...and many times you have to "go around them" to get what you want; i.e. talking to the tech directly or calling your OB and telling him/her about your concerns and express how unhappy and how unacceptable this whole ordeal is to you!
Good luck and keep us posted!
