stopping procardia today for preterm labor/feeling nervous
I had my last progesterone shot yesterday and took my last procardia last night. I'm really nervous about what to expect now. I have heard some people go into labor within hours of the first missed dose while others have to be induced at 42 weeks. I won't be 37 weeks until next Tuesday and my doctor is on vacation this week. I spent the evening of Christmas Eve at L&D and was 2 cm and 50% effaced. I see another doctor on Thursday of this week. I'm not sure if she'll check me or not.
Do any of you have any experience with the procardia that you can share?

Alex was born at exactly 37 weeks and had no problems. I get an ultrasound Thursday to see how big Gabriel is. He's been measuring a little ahead and we did the steroids for his lungs so they thing I'm in a safe zone as far as his health is concerned.
Are you having any preterm symptoms this time? I remember reading they wanted you to do the progesterone shots and you were not going to.

ive had a few sets of contractions... they have always stopped right as i was walking out the door to l&d... ive mentioned it to my dr and she isnt concerned... so im not... however my cervix has shortend to 2.2 from 4.3.. and i go to get another measurement on the 6th.. so we will see... im 28 weeks now.. so viable... they gave me a 60%chance of making 32 weeks!...
I took Procardia with Noah. I don't hardly remember when I quit taking it but I know that I never went into labor. I got to my normal C-section date and everything was hunky dorey! lol Who knows if I spelt those last two words right. It's a Texas saying.......LOL You're full term now so I wouldn't worry if you went into labor right now. I'm sure your baby will be just fine. My 1st baby was born at 36 weeks and he was wonderful. The one thing that I was worried about with Procardia, even though it was prescribed for preterm labor was that it was a Class C drug. I'm taking a Class B drug right now and freaking out about THAT! lol Taking it in the 2nd or 3rd trimester CAN cause growth retardation but Noah was a strapping 8lbs 3oz. at birth. He was due on July 8th (2006) and I had him scheduled C-section on June 26th. Guess that made him 38 1/2 weeks?
Anyhoo, that's my only experience with the drug. Hopefully I won't ever have to take it again!

Gabriel was almost 5 pounds at our 32 week ultrasound and has been measuring ahead every week.
I worried about the Class C drug as well. I had to start taking it at 24 weeks. But given the alternative of him being born that early, I didn't have much choice. My doctor and I discussed the this along with the risks of some other meds he put me on and trust that we made the right decision. I'm just gratefully that we've been able to hold off on delivering him this long.

Yeah, sometimes with these medicines you have to weigh the good with the bad. I hated taking Procardia. It made me feel goofy!!! And I was just so scared everyday that it would hurt Noah. But he was absolutely fine. Now he does have a couple cysts in his brain, but I don't think that was from the Procardia. And he's meeting all of his milestones so his neurologist isn't worried. He THINKS the cysts will disappear on their own. I hope they have. Just scares me for anything weird to be in the brain of my baby!!
I'm thankful that the Procardia has helped you and kept that baby in there growing. I think it's just scary for any of us while we're pregnant to put anything in our bodies that doesn't belong there. Like I said, I'm scared of using this Class B med! Eeek! I'll be glad to not need it anymore.
